What the hell's past Helena

So I end up with a weekend open with Mrs Shady heading to Vegas with her friends.

I get to do anything. So I pack up the Strom.



A few ideas bounce by, and I decide to head east

Skalkaho creek running strong



As are the falls, pictured here behind the dork



I always like this road



On over to P-Burgh, with interesting yard decorations



Onward to Helena



And across the water into the mountains



This place had like 3 buildings



Been a long day, found me a camp spot and set 'er up.







Now, just sit there



The burbling stream and wind in the trees sang me into deep sleep. 6 AM I was up cooking oatmeal, which I enjoyed over hot coffee and had the company of a deer watching me from across the creek.

Cool part here. Took this road that turns to dirt, and stays dirt, for 65 miles. Not one single intersection with another road besides the occasional ranch driveway. It was just spectacular.







Helped the ranchers out a bit with their ground squirrel problems







Back down to the big prairies now



Fooled around Great Falls for a bit, rode out to Belt, then looking for a non-windy camp area, iffy at best in that area, was fruitless so I kept heading towards home, eventually all the way. Went 660 miles in 2 days, and couldn't complain about any of it really. There are big sections of Montana to explore that quietly hide on your map every day.

I got no complaints about your 660 miles either, just lots of compliments to you for sharing it.

Where is Nelson MT?

How did you get from Canyon Ferry to W.S.S? There is a road called York road by Hauser Lake, which I have not been on. I have taken Confederate Gulch before?

Nelson was up York road then up to the left on Beaver Creek road. I mean nothing up there and here's the Cribbage Capital of the World with two log houses and this old guy cutting weeds by his fence. Beaver creek was where I camped, and though it showed to go through on some maps, it didn't on others, so rather than go 25 miles then have to turn back, I went back and down east side of Canyon Ferry.

I went over south of Confederate Gulch on Duck Creek road. Then the long dirt road was the one going from WSS to Ft Logan and just turns to dirt, ends up in Ulm MT. That ride was a real hidden gem, at least to me.

U dawg! I've been dyin' to check Ulm off my list ...

Looks like you ran some of the stretch I covered on my "Ghost Town Tour" last July...guess I should write a report. We hit the York Bar - great burgers - ran up Magpie, down Avalanche then back up Duck Ck and overnited at Gypsy Lake. Turned back towards Townsend though from White Sulpher Springs.

Great pictures - I'm from Sheridan MT and live in Omaha - I hit the Beartooth this summer on my Vstrom - just love it up there - I have to do it again sometime -
