So th forks are back together , steering head bearings greased and refitted and adjusted, some new front wheel bearings

I like to pop the seal and add a bit more grease

Use the old bearing as an installer

Check the brake pull is at 90 degrees

Then bolt it back in, heading in the right direction now!

I couldnt stand looking at all these nice and clean PE's so I had to take matters into my own hands

Anybody got a spare '77 rear fender, mine didnt want to stay connected to the bike.

Bit more achieved today, gotta get cracking, first race is one month away!

These are the swing arm bearing numbers if you need some

Made another special tool to install

So I bench assembled the swingarm bibs and bobs, sourced another brake backing plate to replace the broken one, made up new chain rollers and replaced bolts as necessary, all assembled with a liberal dollop of Loctite

New front brake cable turned up yesterday, expensive but had to have it and its genuine NOS!

So slipped it back in its spot, had to repair the frame where it had slop from a loose swingarm pivot bolt

New gear lever!

New grips and lever assemblies!

Even had time to put on a race plate with my racing number for this year

My choice of number, I'm a Mopar tragic, with two 318 powered hot rods in the shed!

I am now getting a crash course in De Carbon shock rebuilding

Took a while to figure out how to get the first circlip out , then it all happened nice!

Just going to refill with fresh oil and hit em with 150 psi of nitrogen

OK, shocks are back together with fresh oil,tested under water for leaks with 80psi in them, will get nitrogen in them this week!
Not detailed on purpose, that will come when I decide to do a full resto on it

yay got new piston for mine finally, dead since December, dam it was good to cain it's ass again
need to get rear shocks rebuilt seals blew a while ago, has a lot more squirt now,
doing wheelies and fell off backwards no damage, on grass and raining.

went in the bush had a look around and it's been redesigned a bit from recent floods
and found a dead calf or something looked like it had about 20 psi in it, told friend to do a jump of it he wouldn't .

This is a great thread!

I was the proud owner of an '81 PE175. I was so impressed with the compact engine and the power, and all that suspension! (I'd been riding early 70's Yamahas) Be sure to LocTite that kickstarter bolt; I spent a miserable day searching for that damn kickstarter.
I bought it for $350, and my parents sold it when I went to bootcamp (in '93). Maybe I'll speak to them again someday.

OK, I'm calling it good for the moment!
Heaps of little stuff has been done and its ready for test riding

Mixed up some gas and she fired straight up, first kick!

I havent got time to ride it, so a mates picking it up tomorrow and getting a few laps in on it just to confirm its readyb to go to its first event in two weeks time

Back after the test run all good, a couple of minor issues which I've dealt with, the major issue appaently is soft suspension, so a few pounds in the front and Get some heavier springs for the rear,
Overall,happy!

Need a gas tank for 1981 PE175x and also the "special tool"that fit on the bike mounts to the front forks part #96431-40500.If anybody knows where I could find these 2 item that would be great.

Holy crap people on here have these bikes... I posted in the thumpers forum looks like I was in the wrong place well I habe a 78 pe250 first bike and i really have no idea what im doing lol. I rebuilt the brakes and bearings. But aperently it needs crank seals that I cant find online. And I have an electronic problem to fix. Oh and if anyone uase a 78 id love to see the chain tensioner mines missing

Hey guys, nice resto's. I bought my PE175 for $50 with a melted piston. I gave it new piston rings and rebore and it was off from the get go. On the first weekend my mate said how do you steer that thing, I asked why? He said that front wheel is never on the ground..haha. It hammed and in the tighter stuff i kept it up to an IT490. It eventualy did the big end and i sold it as is for $125 and went to the pub... haha. I was told it was a police bike, not sure on that story, but supprisingly fast. Maybe had the restrictor removed as mentioned earlier in the thread. Some nice examples guys.

I bought this a few years ago 1980 250 T, stripped it down and that's where it's sat so it's time I got off my arse and put it back together. I've had the frame painted, recovered the seat got new wheel and headstem bearings etc., etc., some new DC plastics are next on the list to buy.

I am going to re-spoke the wheels with HD stainless spokes but can anyone tell me if the hubs should be painted matt or gloss black?

Friend and I pulled the jug and covers off to replace the crank seals a day after these pics were taken.
Waiting on seals, gaskets, piston, etc
Hoping it was the crank seals that was causing that high idle.
Ordered some new cables, reeds, plastics(OEM!), decals.....
