Sorry I know this has come up before but my searches have provided little info. Has there been a poll on which seat is preferred my the most riders? I'm in the process of getting a GS Adv. and it is just a bit too tall for my liking. I reach the ground fine but would like a little more "sure footed" feel. I saw the list of seat manufacturers in the FAQ and thanks to whom ever put the FAQ together. What seats are thought to be the best?
Kahedo X-LOW seat from TOURATECH i am 5'6" 27.5" inseam i can ride my '11 GS Adventure just fine all-day comfort, too http://www.touratech-usa.com/Store/3239/PN-055-1526/X-LOW-Driver-Seat-Silver-R1200GS-Adventure buy it today WORTH EVERY SINGLE CENT.... trust me
I have a Rick Mayer seat on my 2005 GS. I had just the front seat made. He can scoop the seat out a little bit to get you lower and also reduce the amount of padding on the sides to bring your legs closer together making your legs "longer" in effect.
I'd say it all depends on the shape and "natural padding" of the butt, and preferred sitting position.
I agree. If you can take your bike to someone local who makes custom bike seats, there's nothing better IMHO.
Well OK I'm 6' and 285lbs. I'm quite wide in the arse. I've had seats made before but not for a BMW that I hope to ride a lot. I've heard a bunch of good about the sargent so it is on the top of the list so far.
Sargent low. Best money ive spent on the bike. 08 GSA and im 6'0 190 30" inseam and i can almost flatfoot it. Super comfortable. I rode 550 miles yesterday and could have gone more. The stock seat is good for offroading while standing but thats about it.... Good luck w the bike. Its an engineering marvel and can take tons of abuse.
Butt Buffer in PA. Custom seats and they can work on your seat right there while you wait or mail to them. Had my Ducati 1098 seat "softened up" for a week's trip and never felt uncomfortable. Thinking of having them work on my '10 GS.
Stop your search. I've had Mayer, Sargent and of course stock. There is none better that the . . . Russell Day Long Saddle
...heads up that build time is currently 5 weeks out. I ordered mine early last week, my build date is April 8. Going with vinyl sides, leather insert. Very much looking forward to it. My butt goes numb after 3 hours in the OEM stock.
I guess it wouldn't matter but the Russel seat is one butt ugly seat! (no pun intended). I hope I get to see or try a couple of these seats before I buy one.
+1...They look very comfortable, but most also do not look at home on the GSA, IMHO. I do not like the idea of loosing your stock seat either if you wanted something to run around town on or off road some. I did see one Russel seat that looked very comfortable and was made smaller a bit so it did not look so huge on the bike. It really looked great. Something about shaved sides to help when standing I think. If I was made of money I would have two or three seats and one of them would be a Russell for long tours. Currently I am waiting for my Sargent to arrive on Monday.
Russell - I have had them for many years, and many miles. It is a great product - no tie to company, just a satisfied customer. This one is on a R1150R. Also had Corbin, Sargent, Mustang - none better than Russell
