I've seen one coming at me and it is no where near as blinding as any HID I've seen on cars.

+1. I've been running the BD 8" with a 100 watt bulb for 9 years.. It's not as bad as you think, with regard to on coming traffic.

Thanks for the advice, just ordered everything. 8" BD light, Acerbis taillight, and some mini stalk turn signals for the back. I have to wait for the switch from highway dirt bikes, they only take paypal and I have to wait until the money transfers over.

Time to pull the bike into the basement and start tearing it back apart.

Spacers here, on top or below, are a "half click" adjustment only normally, so if you say yours is under it then close enough. If the fueling it not to your liking, try above? Stating the obvious, a spacer on top obviously does nothing, but under it does.

That sounds wrong, unless you perhaps refer to Furlongs per Fourthtnight. I think he meant rotations-of-cable per 1 rotation of the wheel.
"Cheap speedo" is easy though, try any Trailtech?

I don't know the ratio, but if you can use the speedo from an XR600R I'm about to part one out.

I used my bike to commute for a year or so with a 8inch on it and I would regularly reach in front of the light, or aim it down for traffic. Its pretty easy really.

Great light, the single biggest difference to my bike.

2240:60 means that the speedometer cable coming from the front wheel revolves at 2240 rpm at 60mph. It's a standard for Japanese bikes.

Sure. I never said anything about it being difficult to aim it down. Effective on the other hand I'd estimate not, with that little bit of adjustment. Looks like it pivots what, 10-15 degrees forward? What angle you think the light shines up, maybe 45 degrees? Self denial is your choice, but I'd bet you a paycheck that plenty of people were annoyed by your 100 watt upward shining photon generator. :deal

Everyone can do what they want. Someone asked for some advice. I gave my opinion, and it is still what it is. And in fact it seems to be based on some simple math, so it's a bit beyond opinion.

EDIT: Busy night for me over here, clearing out work space in my office to wheel in my pig for winter wrenching, then tonight busy with my great home teams the Bruins at 7, and the Patriots playing in the Tebowl at 8, should be a fun night. :-)

Not sure of the ratio but here is what I have....
I picked mine up at the local Independent Harley shop... $35 dollars. It is a white faced Drag Specialties 2:1 Ratio speedo, odo and trip meter it is also lighted. Part# DS243836... I really find the trip meter useful for knowing when to start looking for gas... It is about +3 or 4 MPH at any speed when compared to my GPS. The XRR cable screwed right into the speedo. I made a simple mount out of flat Stainless Steel to mount it.

The estimating, opinion and self denial are all you, dude. :deal

Stick to giving advice on stuff that you've had on your bike. :norton

Sure man I'm sure you have lots of experience seeing what your light looks like from the perspective of oncoming traffic. Which part of my estimate did you disagree with specifically, the 15 degree adjustment, or the 45 degree upward reflection angle? And on top of it you think you should decide that I should keep my comments to my self on a 'disussion' forum. Who are you, some kind of dictator?
