What can I say (as I type here in my stealth helichopper crossing the London skyline en route to my secret laboratory), ya got me.
My word, sorry. I meant since the Hat Attack, when I got attacked with that hat, Remember? Also - Death can kiss my ass

They were as ever effusive in their welcome () and Ian Dave chatted to me whilst eating his sarnies, and it turned out they had none suitable that weren't more fucked than mine and that a new one would come in at £60 for something worthwhile. I said I'd have a poke at our scrap yard down the road here & see what they had of a reasonable capacity/size. Well, since then they've sort of done me a sort of favour and a sort of (unintentional) dis-service at the same time as they happened to mention me looking for a batterty to A$$trail there today, who has a pretty fresh-ish one sitting on the non-functional carcass of that old red K75s I sold him and he subsequently has abso-fuckin-lutely fucked but is still trying to resurrect. Poor Dave & Ian Dave have been chasing an electrical problem that they just can't sort and have quite rightly reached the very end of their joint tethers as well as A$$trails credit rating. Now you know what they're like and how they'd do just about everything they can to get you running again, but they'd just reached the end of the road with both it and him, not least because his Reliant Robin is sitting there adding to the bill too. I think A$$trail muttered something around a total of a grand? On the K75s there's fuel (after a replacement fuel pump), but an intermittent spark, and they've (in no order) replaced the hall sensor, tried other HT feed/coils/HT output/plugs, swapped out the Engine Control Unit (spark box) and the Injection Control Unit for 2nd hand units. After the initial pump renewal the bike ran for half a mile and then got pushed back to Dave Ian Daves. The second time (after the ECU/ICU swap etc.) the bike ran for half an hour static and then just stopped, never to start again. I'm advised the suspicion currently lays with the temperature sensor on the cooling circuit stub on top (or the side, depending which way you look at the engine) of the block. I can see how if it were failed/stuck/broken & giving out an erroneous bad/high/danger signal to the ICU/ECU then they might revert to a STOP/SAFE mode? I mean, that's their current best guess, and I can see how they've tried a lot of different things and have really had enough... FYI there is no temp warning light on the dashboard and as far as I know the fan did not come on during the 30 mins it was last running. So there's a general question to see if anyone knows - if the coolant temp sensor is unplugged, does the ECU/ICU system revert to a control internal map and allow the engine to run in a sort of 'get me home' mode or does it lock out the engine (& maybe kill the spark?) so it turns over but just won't fire, to save it from damage. If anyone knows I'd be grateful to be told. I can sympathise that for Dave and Ian Dave they'd just had enough and didn't fancy digging towards this irritating-to-access sensor plug & rack up more hours they may never see back. Of course you can get some form of access by removing the belly pan & radiator cover grille between the fairing panels but it's still a pain to get to. So it's either a matter of pulling the radiator off and all that entails, or using the sneaky route, which is to go in from behind and pull out the airflow meter, air filter and airbox base and get access that way. I'm going for this latter approach as it means one can reassemble & test without the trouble of recharging the coolant system etc. I just want to unplug the sensor & see if the brain defaults to a mapped run state, if that's what it does... Now if the sensor has to be replaced then the coolant will have to be drained anyway to fit a new (2nd hand) sensor, but if the ICU/ECU can cope with an unplugged temp sensor connection then at least it might give some idea of the root of the problem. But then probably not eh? It's 15 thru/ough to 16 below we're talking about - http://i61.servimg.com/u/f61/11/71/56/74/temp_s10.jpg http://i61.servimg.com/u/f61/11/71/56/74/temper10.jpg From: http://www.k100-forum.com/t829-oh-de...issues-k100-rs And remember we are dealing with A$$trail, this is the 'man' (vegetable based 'lifeform') who once walked out to his CX500 which was sitting low on its rotted centre stand and was convinced someone had stolen his stand while he was indoors, and even bothered replacing it with another rather than just leaving it laying on the floor, preferably on fire... I replaced the stand for him & had to hacksaw the spindle out & it was only when he saw the rusted flattened base tubes and how hard it was to have got off that he was convinced. Blurry Irriot!?! So, this is my punishment and a tax I must pay to get my hands on a better battery, it's a form of soul tax where I will be depleted by dealing with a barking loon in return for said battery. He can have my knackered one as even if the bike stated it has a rear flat & absolutely no fluid in the front brakes so it's not as if he's going to get it back on the road anyway. In the mean time he can ride his 600 Yamaha something or other, on which, by the way, he has somehow fucked 2nd gear so has to go from 1st to 3rd... I've been careful to be very clear about what I am prepared to do in return for the battery, and how this tech support will not turn into an endless stream of different attempts to get it running. And I am not interested in anything else that is, has or might come to be occurring in his wider life as I don't give a fuck. To some readers this may seem uncharitable or somewhat harsh but all you have to do is dig back a ways thru/ough this thread to get an idea of just what we're dealing with - http://kevinghill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/catweazle.jpg Of course if this replacement battery proves fucked he can suck on the whole fucking thing
It's also been kindly suggested by Ben Kingham from BSK Speedworks that I might swap out the temp sensor relay. This would of course be a good place to start as it's easy access before I start digging my way into the sensor. The 1st pic below is from a K100 but the 75 may be broadly comparable? The 2nd pic is listed as K75. http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/download/efi-web%20page/electrical.jpg From http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/download/bike-wont-start1.htm http://www.motorsloop.com/images/bmw/499BMWK75032.JPG From: http://www.motorsloop.com/index.php...id=8&filter_id=452&sort=3a&page=1&language=en
Here's a site that may be of use if you haven't already found it http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/bvogel/K100/download/efi-web page/K100 troubleshooting Starting.pdf Some info on the temp sensor in there somewhere, k's really are cuntish to work on compared to airheads Edit, I see you have that site in your last post
Cheers for your thought tho/ough I quite miss having my k75 running. Perhaps if A$$trail fails to get his one sorted he may part it out for spares and I can get the bits that I need... I've owned 2 x 75 and they were both happy if you looked after them, he's run this one right into the ground. As an unrelated comment (honest) sometimes some poople manage to maintain a state of thought that supports the assertion that 'This is everbodies fault but mine'. I guess one can only endeavour to observe such traits & expunge them from oneself?
No worries, I found it useful when my (ex)k100 was being a prick. I fixed it by selling it. Problem with k's is, over here they are worth sweet feck all, and not worth spending money on. Some pretty awesome album covers on that site Thorazine, had a good laugh at that. Knight Rocker has no business being in there though, it's a classic
whatchu mean takeabrake? and since it's the centennial of WW1: (I hope I don't get banned for showing nipples)
