Joan Barreda Bort's GPS signal indicates that he has been at a standstill for five minutes for a currently unknown reason. The rider has not set off an alert, so it is likely that he is experiencing technical problems.

That's the way it's been going, and always goes, to some extent.

The rider who finishes first on the preceding day opens the piste on the next, so there are no tracks for him to follow. Slows both navigation and pure riding pace to some degree.

Seems that if you can finish 4-8th on the day, but with a small time margin, that's the best spot to be in tactically. The first 10 riders start at 2min intervals, so if you start 5th, you're 10min behind the guy opening the stage. Even if you end up finishing physically 2 min behind him, you've made 8minutes on race time. :deal

I didn't know it was possible to talk that fast... while kind of singing at the same time. Top effort!

Behind David Casteu, Alessandro Botturi now occupies second place, trailing the French rider by 1'16". Cyril Despres has cropped up in fourth place, 1'47" behind his countryman. Duclos, Przygonski and Gouet have also sneaked into the top 10, who are all within a differential of four minutes.

It's a really interesting dynamic to watch.

MANY thanks to mischa for building that feature in. Used to take a LOT of math to figure it out on the fly.

You can still sort the dakar.com posis page by hours, but that only works for the CP's and not the WP's generally.
