This is probably a long shot but I wanted to see if anyone had a lead on a later model, 2005-2007 640 Adventure for sale locally? I'm looking for my next project!! They are somewhat scarce and the only ones I can find are no where near Colorado. Plus they have over 20K on them. Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank!
I had them on my search list too....the only ones I saw were Scott Colbath's in PHX and Baja Dad's nicely done '07. Virtually none on craigslist worth looking at - all older and in crap condition.
I really liked Baja Dads but it looks like He's pulled it for the time being. Scott's is nice but is two years older then Bajas with over 10K more miles, is basically stock and is the same or more money. I may PM Baja and tell him I want it and see what happens, my last PM went un answered.
I think he got busy with work and couldn't answer folks' PM's and emails - he dropped his price (for 48hrs ) to $4700. He was gone at the Taste of Dakar too.
I have been looking for one for over a year locally. The only one that was decent (price and condition) was somewhere in the western part of Nebraska. There was a clean almost stock 07 on CL a while ago but the owner wanted $6500 if my memory is correct.
I have an 06 smc set up for dirt riding. But has never actually been ridden off road. I'm going to list it next week because I'm going to go a different direction for a Baja bike. You said "project" just needs and adventure tank and rally fairing.
I bought that one in NE but it had title problems. Gave it back. Probably worth getting back to him if you know his contact info. It was perfect! With 5K miles!
Here is one in Bend, Or. http://bend.craigslist.org/mcy/4312597926.html High price to match the low miles.
I've owned an SMC in the past, cool bike but may be a little too much to take on for an Offroad conversion.
dont understand all this about mileage.... i have a 95 LC4 and there absolutely bulletproof...... or ..did that change when they put on balancers and electric start??
From what I've seen they need a little love around 25K in regards to cam bearings and water pump, 50K they're about due for a valve job and piston......this is of course calculating in my head the KM to Miles conversion, which isn't the most accurate of resources to be using!
o ya cam bearing was replaced ( once 2007) top end after 14 years ( valve job at Area machine shop.... rings.. gaskets...piston was ok..) i must have got a good one?? because i definitely run them into the ground.. with maintenance of course most of my work has been customizing ...suspension.. gas tank... rad guards...ect..
I have a friend who lives south of Pittsburgh, PA who wants to sell his '07. It has 16k miles, some extras included, looks to be in great shape. His asking price is in the low $6k range. I'm not sure if he's willing to ship, but I can ask him if you're interested. I sold my mint '06 3k-mile 640A last year to a guy in Phoenix, from this site. The buyer paid about $650 to have it shipped.
Guess I shouldn't mention that I bought my '06 640 Adventure a few months back from Foothills BMW in Denver then...
I actually saw it here at Fays right after you bought it. I talked to Michael Stern at Foothills the day after you bought it. He used to work down here and I was having him keep an eye out. A day late and a dollar short, story of my life!
