    Tom,

My 06 DRZ400SM already has a top rack, I'm guessing it's a factory one? I bought it on Ebay so I don't really remember, can those side racks be used with any top rack?

My plan is to get some racks and adapt them for hard case Pelicans.

    Thanks

    Ron

Hey Ron, I would need to know where your rack attaches. Can you PM me a link to the rack or a photo?

You can also go to the first page of my thread and you can see where my rack attaches to the subframe if that helps.

Either way, I'll help you figure it out.

    Thanks, Tom

You might as well have the best, and these are it. These are hand-fabricated, welded and checked for fit and finish by a single craftsman who cares deeply about his job. They just plain work. Tom has a deep knowledge of what a rider needs, and his work tells the story.

These may be the best value in US made racks available. Get 'em before they're gone. Too many superb builders have dropped off the planet because the effort to put out and promote a superior product and compete with all the price-point product proved too much. I compare these to Filson clothing. They are not fancy. They are well-built, from proven material with traditional methods. They'll last a good long time, and if there's a problem it will be taken care of.

Your work looks great. Did you ever get around to fabbing up a set of side racks for the KLR 650? LMK as I'm in the market and your work for the DRZ looks really good. I'm looking for Gen 1 ('87-'07). thanks!

Thanks Joe, I have some for the '08 and up, but haven't done any for the older model yet. I have a friend with an '07 and I'll ask him if he would mind bringing it here for R&D. -Tom

If you were a wee bit closer, I'd volunteer to bring my '87 by but I guess I'll just have to wait for your friend and his '07 to show up at your door. Any pics of the 2nd gen KLR rack? Did I miss a web site in your first post? I'm too lazy to scan through all the pages of this thread to find pics. Again, your work looks very nice and I'm sure you're going to do well with them.

Might want to save it for when you have to get that record Bull Trout home!

I have another friend with an '07 DR650 that is bringing it here for R&D as soon as I can get him to stop riding it for a couple of days! Pray for snow and ice. What kind of width do you think would be best?

Thanks Joe, Here is a crude pic of some I got back from the powder coat shop today. These fit the '08 and newer KLR650. The '07 and earlier will be similar. For the KLR650 Side Racks, GO HERE: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=834623

Can't wait to see what you have in mind for the 2013 Honda CRF250L. Your racks sure look robust to me. Hope you find a donor CRF soon to make your jig!

Hey siyeh, I haven't found anybody with a 2013 model yet, but I'll put the word out! Anyone who brings me one will get a free rack for letting me use their bike to design one!

Yup...the CRF seems HOT as far as the latest in DS riding. I've seen your DRZ and KLR racks and side racks, especially with the roto-pax mounts, and it oughta kill 3 birds with one stone on the CRF250L, which has a tiny tank....with large tanks off in the distant future in terms of availability.

    Hello,

Do you have any racks for the KLX 250? Do you make side racks as well?

    Thanks,
    Restless

Ed, I will be designing racks for the CRF250L this winter. I think the current menu of 250's being offered today are going to prove to be very popular.

    Thanks for the interest,Tom

I don't currently, but I'll be designing racks for this model too. Side racks will definitely be considered when I start the R&D.

    Thanks for inquiring!
