It is late spring and getting into summer, so in general it should be mild, with chance of cool rainy days, You may encounter very warm days in the rainshadow of the coast mountains , e.g.the Okanagan Valley, Fraser Vally at Cache Creek , Whitehorse, only to run smack into a day of cold rain, . . It all depends on where you are and the weather systems of the day you are dealing with , and it all changes by the hour. Exact predictions are impossible. Be ready for anything like you may have experienced in Scandinavia during spring/summer.Bring the varied dry gear required. In the North central interior of BC the days are usually in the mid 20's during the day and in the low to mid teen's at night with rain days being cooler. Biting Bugs are just starting to come into season and unfortunately will remain here until the first good frost sometime in late September so bring DEET if you are spending anytime in the outdoors and don't want to lose a pint of blood.
You'll have to really hussle to get to Alaska from Oakland in two weeks. If you're determined, and plan to go through Vancouver, then I'd suggest going up Hwy 99 to Whistler and then on to Lillooet to hook up with Hwy 97 to Prince George and beyond. The mosquitos are noticable starting at Prince George but only really became a factor while on Hwy 37 to Stewart and up to Watson lake. I did that run last July and the weather was fantastic. However, that can change in a heartbeat. SB is certainly right about the weather changes especially if you take the Fraser Canyon north. It can be easilly in the high 90's (35C to 40C) or 100's only to cool down to 60F around 100 Mile House. Good Luck Howie
Regarding mosquitoes in Alaska, I do believe that they are capable of carrying away small dogs. Denim and nylon windbreakers don't even slow them down, based on my experience in June and July. Seriously, the best advice is what someone gave me years ago: bring a mesh hat that's rated for black flies. It weighs essentially nothing and takes up very little space. Oh, and do bring DEET. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden"><input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
