Just installed a Vapor on my 2001 wr426f. The tach is reading anywhere from 7500 to 12000 at idle. The tach pickup line is to the coil hot lead spade connector and the ground is to the frame on the coil mount . The PPR (Pulse per Revolution) is set to 1 as per the book. Any help would be great
Try wrapping the rpm wire around the plug wire with some electrical tape to hold it in place. This should be listed as an option in your book.
Yeah that was in the book also. I just thought this was a cleaner way to install. Just went out and changed the PPR setting to 2 and the RPMs dropped in half. I will change the wire to the plug lead and report back.
I tried that with mine at first and it didn't work for me either. You may want to try the reset button on the back as well, you'll loose your settings (Ithink)but it may help.
So I just went out and changed the wire to the plug lead and the tach dropped to 1700 or so. I guess the next question would have to be "What is the idle speed on a 2001 wr426f yamaha?" The question after that is why did it make a difference?
You are there my friend, ideling RPMs should be from 1700 to 1900 with your bike. My best guess at the strange readings is a trace feeler type voltage besides the spark pulse but that is only a guess.
That is why I hate working with electricity. It just does't make sense half the time. The install book says to use this way, so why does it only work some time? Anyway, thanks for the info. Got to take the SO out so I am off.
