Hey Fellas, I like old bikes but don't know a lot about them. This bike is jammed in an old doghouse next to my buddies place. I thought i'd tap into the ADV knowledge pool. The motor is in a different part of the property and couldn't get a look at it. Let me hear your best guesses . Thanks, Chris
Not a brand- it's a custom. Looks like an Amen Savior frame to me. Could have had several different kinds of lumps in there. Those frames were used for choppers in the Late-60's- early 70's
I would venture to guess that the spoke wheel / drum brake combo in background goes with it, not the Kawi mag. Cool find!
Thanks Ernie! Did you guys notice what appears to be the upper triple with the headlight mounted on it laying next to the frame. Cool! I got a little extra intel on the engine that goes with it. It might be a Triumph chopper.
it looks like a period chopper that was either never finished or who's engine stopped and was pulled to be fixed. That looks like a trump headlight. The dog bones risers on the triple clamp are worth some pretty good money these days. as are the spoon passenger pegs and the z bars handlebars. Do a search for Chopperdave, Chop Cult, Biltwell, blood falcons etc, and start following links You will find a growing scene that would love to get there hands on a bike like this or help out someone who has.
Thanks for the info Squish. Here's a cool Amen link: http://www.angelfire.com/tn/bikes/frameid.html It turns out the guys nephew jammed these parts into the doghouse over 10 years ago and never came back. I might start dealing with the guy. The pics of those old Amen framed Triumph choppers have got me a little fired up. Any Ideas what would constitute a good deal for the parts shown?
You'd better claim dibs on that thing before you tell anyone what it is. Toss a few bucks around, load it up and GTF home before whoever it is wakes up!
Tell him you want to make your CM400 into a trials sidecar rig for a welding class you're taking at junior college. Offer him $25 for everything and see what he says. BTW- bring cash.
That frame looks like a standard 3 or 5ta Triumph front loop with a home made plunger backend bodged on. Yamaha forks. rear wheels a Non QD triumph. It would have looked like this when it started out Crying shame what the 80's custom market turned great bikes into If the frame still has the original numbers stamped on it this site will tell you what the bike started life as:- http://www.tri-corengland.com/acatalog/Triumph_Dating_information.html
Good call, I had no idea what the name was, but it clearly is one of the old plunger style "soft tails" (to borrow a Harley term).
The front loops a standard Brit frame with an aftermarket subframe fitted. There's a 5ta front loop on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vint...torcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1182
Thanks fellas. Provided the frame and wheels are salvagable, what do you think it's worth with the few bits you can see?
Bring a case of beer or a good port (Ramos Pinto Colheita ), bring some cash, but don't offer too much, less than $100, say $40 for the whole lot or $50 if he helps you load it up. Don't go over $100 no matter what that first time. With such a mix of parts, it will cost you quite a bit to get a good runner. Jean
yep, its either an Amen Savior frame (so called because it would 'save-yer' ass) or maybe a Santee, who also made em back then. they both made complete frames, or bolt/weld on rear sections. I cant see the neck, so I dunno if thats a factory front section. Mounts look like triumph unit twin (63 & later) fork trees look like triumph also. It was common 30-40 years ago to add the rear section, & put 'slugs' in the forks. these were just thread in extentions for the tubes that went into the top to make em longer. Never sounded very safe to me, I'd never run them. (I have never seen a set of tubes that were broken from them tho) I love findin old stuff like this thats been stored for years. take some more pics next time your over there Doug
Thanks for all the help with this fellas. Looks I'll get the lot of it for around $150. Includes a complete Triumph motor as well. I'm going down this weekend. I'll take detailed pics once I get it all home.
