Does anyone know what the common size or number is for the alarm system?

It looks like a thick watch battery on the computer, but there is no part number.

Dealer says $6.50 for the battery and a 5 to 10 day wait to get it.

It's either a cr2 or a cr123. You should be able to find either at a drugstore or Radio Shack for about $6.00. I'm pretty sure it's a CR2.

I'm making the assumption that it was about the batteries in the alarm itself. I think you're probably correct that it's the batteries for the remote.

I am looking for the one that goes in the unit on the bike. I have to drop the fender well to get to the bottom of the unit to pull the battery. The remote still works fine. But I will get a new battery for it also at the same time.

As I said, I'm pretty sure it's a pair of CR-2. You don't drop the fender, you take the rear plastic cover which BMW calls the "rear carrier" off to access the alarm.

Well just went out and tore in to the fender area. (It's only 114 degrees, probably 120 in the garage) Pull the taillight assy. and three more screws and the fender well drops. The alarm unit in held in with three screws. Remove one and loosen the other two. Take off the top of the unit and remove the cover inside to get to the two batteries.

They are Sanyo Lithium CR17335 (3 volts). They look like a half of a AA battery.

Oh well, Google is your friend....

It appears that the CR17335 cross references with the CR123.

How did you find that? I tried Google and found them at Radio Shack. $20.00 for the pair. Sure hope they work...

Try CR17335 CR123. A pair of generic CR123 cost about $4.50 at Fry's Electronics here in the S.F. Bay Area.

Sorry to revisit this after so long. Am not very good at this but would like to attempt to replace my batteries. Does anyone have a step by step way of doing this. Is the alarm unit where the battery is stored obvious if I can remove the rear fender?

    Many thanks for your replies.:norton

How do you disable the alarm?

I disabled it (getting the three beeps) but then when i tried removing the bike main battery it was shouting all the time. Very annoying...

    Read post number 7.

    and yes,

The alarm control box is the first thing you come to. You have to come in through the fender from below because the screws are on the bottom. Just pull the unit and you can work on the bench to change the battery's.

If you google the alarm unit and replacement batterys you will find a parts breakdown photo. This will show you what the unit looks like and where it is.

Yes, a cold frosty beverage will make the job easier!!
