A few ideas with links This is a very small compact USB power outlet that plugs right into a Battery Tender pigtail. If all you needed was a USB port this might work and could possibly be placed inside the left side cover. (sorry about the large size of the image) http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tende...-Charger/dp/B00DJ5KEF4/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_img_z using one of these pigtails http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tende...qid=1411301448&sr=1-5&keywords=battery+tender To make a really good, perminent connection to the battery harness I'd use two of those, this size should be correct for the heavier wire size of the harnesses, note that these are color coded, yellow being the largest, you don't want to try using the red or blue connectors as using one that is too small won't make a good connection. Now that I've had a chance to test my setup, I'll probably go with these connectors below to connect the harnesses together. http://www.wiringproducts.com/12-10-gauge-quick-splice-connectors-qty-20.html RM
I think your numbers are off, but I haven't done much more than a cursory look; still I only found a half dozen or so used and about the same new on various lists. Not sure where you got your numbers for how many there are on the dealer floors. Not sure either how you got the fact that if there are (supposedly) 200 + for sale on various sites, out of 500 (delivered), that means there are 300 still on the floor. (??) Either way though I could care less if its popular here or not; a part of me actually likes the idea this bike is going to be unique here, just as my NT700V is or my CB125. Fact is all are proven reliable, fun, well built (for their times), easy to ride and I expect to get many years out of all of them. If I have to shop overseas for parts or farkles now or down the road that doesn't bother me in the least, fact is they will be available as long as needed. The US market isn't exactly the main driving force for any of my bikes, plenty overseas to keep the parts around. But that's just me... RM
After about 3 months, web bike sent my money for the rack back. I liked that rack, not big and ugly like most. Why does not Yamaha make one for the bike?
Just turned 4000 on my SR, 400 miles since the dealer checked it out and not lick of oil used so all is good (for now!) Last weekend I took out the NT700 for a nice long ride, boy all that power (comparatively) and handling! Then I took out the SR400, boy did it seem anaemic at first, Ha Ha! Next day I took it out again and everything was back to normal.... As things start to get cooler I'm wondering about heated gear, as in jacket liner and/or gloves. Jacket liner takes 75 Watts at full power, but I usually run it around 1/2. What's interesting is that the "digital" controller isn't really digital, its more of an "off/on" affair. The higher the setting, the longer it stays on. I found this out by rigging a volt meter on my old airhead and could see the voltage drop then return, about .4 volts variance. So I'm thinking that gloves at 24 Watts would be fine, still not sure of the jacket but I'm going to rig a volt meter on the SR and give it a few rides locally at first and see what happens. I have another smallish battery I could cart along just in case I need a jump. Let you all know how it turns out after I give it a few rides. RM
I go the other way, after riding my TU250, the SR feels like a rocket, even though there is not a lot of difference.
Yeah, it funny how the NT700 is (relatively) fast, but feels slow, whereas the SR400 feels fast but is (relatively) slow. My old airheads all felt about as fast or slow as they were actually travelling. 4000 miles now, 400 since the checkout and not a drop of oil used and while I still haven't bothered to get a resistor for the air injector plug, still no popping or backfiring after well over 1000 miles so at this point I'm not going to bother with it. Friday I was so pissed with work and some really unreasonable security types i have to deal with once a year for a systems audit, I just said the hell with it around noon, logged out and blasted off of the SR for several hours in an attempt to get an invite or two from the fuzz running 15~25 over the limit down some of my favorite local country roads. No luck with the getting the tickets (thank god!) but had a blast pushing the bike hard down mostly 45MPH 2 lane farm roads with some nice twisties, long sweeping turns and few hills with literally no traffic during mid day. Wheeee...! Too much fun... RM
5100 miles on my bike now, it never seems to use any oil, I do not expect it to use any oil till its worn out. The SR seems to like to run fast and its going to get me in trouble eventually.
This according to Motorcycle Consumer News: "Dealer demand has greatly exceeded Yamaha's expectations, so the first year's orders have been increased by 36%, but it may sell out quickly." If the dealers have guessed right, it sounds like the SR may be with us for a while.
Cycle world just printed its "First Ride" review by Mark Hoyer. Positive marks! Keep the Faith! Throwbacks MC https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=159697770713381
I did not see the one that was at my local dealers (Mr Holly) last Saturday. Maybe it sold. The cb1100 is still there...no cbr300. 5200 miles on my SR, running great!
I see 1100 everywhere i go. Seen the same one on the floor of a local dealership every time i visited since getting my bike a year and a half ago.
That's great you are off the grid. There are a lot of houses here that are too. Solar panels for electricity. Many are on a rainwater catchment system. We don't have solar, but do have rainwater catchment. Works well. Water tastes great too. Most have 8000-15,000 gallon water tanks. The water goes through filters, then a UV light (to kill any microscopic critters). Nice bike too. I may never get to see an SR400 in person, as we live near Hilo, Hawaii, and the only Yamaha dealer on the big island is about 125 miles away in Kona.
That's awesome, LPRoad. Congratulations on the no grid. Small places are easy to take care of. Oh, nice bike too.
Dealer calls me today says he wants the SR400 gone off the floor. $5638 out the door. Sounds like a deal.
