Stopped for coffee yesterday, got ready to ride off again, goggles, helmet, gloves, sat on bike, no key in ignition. Couldn't get the damned thing out of my trouser pocket so had to dismount. Couldn't open the zip on my pocket so had to take my glove off.

Rode off this morning with my water bottle sitting on top of my pannier.

Got to my hotel tonight, I'd ridden since the last fuel stop with my jacket pocket undone. No cigarettes!

I need an acronym to remember to check everything before setting off or else I'm going to arrive somewhere with no panniers on the back. :lol3

I got told of doing a "POWDER" check at the end of a days riding; fill up with petrol to avoid early morning hunts for an open petrol station, check your oil, water and other fluids, give the bike a once over for damage, check the electrics and lights and finally, check the rubber. The reason for doing it at the end of the day is that you've got time to do any necessary work in the evening rather than waste riding time during the day if you discover a problem first thing in the morning.

So, got any suggestions for a suitable acronym to use before setting off after a coffee or lunch stop? Feel free to have a little fun but keep it civil. :D

And earplugs. I can't tell you how often I suit up, get on the bike, and ride off only to realize I forgot to put my earplugs in.

I guess you could take a sharpie, and put a punch list on your tank, and scratch off each item as you do it, with your keys. Oh wait that won't work, cause you need to put the key in the ignition.

I guess you will just have to pull your head out of your ass, and make do best you can.

I rode off and left my $240 Maui Jim sunglases on my instrument cluster. Noticed them as the slid between the dash and tank had heard the crunch as the rear tire rolled over them.
I wear cheap sunglases when riding now.

G'damn, stop having so much money:freaky :lol3 Tinted visor is what saved my Aviators from my stupidity, which, apparently, increases with the years spent riding motorcycles.....but I could be wrong:D

    Fastners are always closed.

Open fastner, remove item, close fastner.
    Use item.
Open fastner return item close fastner.

Applies to jacket , bacpack, tank bag, fanny pack etc

Earplugs on a string around your neck.
Third or (fourth) last thing you put on.
    earplugs, helmet, gloves (goggles)

One item or item group per pocket stops the multi pocket fumble.

Wallet; Cigarettes & lighter; notepad, pen & glasses; Camera / phone

Do you carry a clear/lightly tinted visor for after dark? On multi-day trips I use a 20% tint, and sunglasses when I'm riding towards the sun.

Fasteners Are Always Closed is a good one, but it doesn't keep you from leaving something in a pocket till after your gloves are on.

Prolly helps to have a "ritual" and never put things where you can't access them. I put my key in the ignition, put my gloves on top of the key, and put my sunglases on the gloves before I put on my helmet.

Yes I carry a clear shield as well. Still totally worth it to not have to mess with glasses.

If you don't have your suit on at this point, you got problems.

I would have J as in jacket, but it didn't sound cool. I do do the ignition, close jacket (in that is also checking pockets for things that might stab me to death in a crash, like a bunch of keys or a Bowie knife:lol3, smoke and whateverthehellelse), earplugs in cranium, helmet on, gloves on and WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE:D
