Best Exhaust for the X 650???

I would love a used Leo Vince or Remus (or anything aftermarket really) if anyone has one they would like to part with.

I have a Remus titanium that will work with a stock header. It had a slight scratch and I just polished it out. I popped the end can off last month to check packing and install a 2nd sound baffle ( from a Staintune pipe). It is still too loud for me so I put the stock can back on. I'm open to offers. If you want to reopen it to remove the internal baffle, you would just drill out 6 rivets remove one screw and reassemble.

I swapped the stock header for a remus header. The stock header shrinks from 42mm to 40mm as it heads back to the muffler while the Remus starts small at 39mm and grows in diameter to 45 (use without the stock pipe gasket). I need to ride it to see if top speed increases, but theoretically, the hot gas expanding in the stock header - going from big to small - would have set up some shock waves (like in a 2 stroke expansion chamber) and without a dyno I will never know if the stock header helped or hindered scavenging from the cylinder - so it will be a seat of the pants dyno conclusion when the roads are clear.

I have a Remus on mine as well. I think it is too loud. Is there anything out there that is quieter? I know the SR is said to be quiet, but I can't find a place that sells it.

The Leo Vince is slightly louder than stock, but not much different. I swapped to the LV pipe to save some weight and hopefully lose the heat under my left leg. However, after switching I think most of the heat under my leg is coming from the engine itself and the oil reservoir.

Scheffelmeier sells it. I guess he sells it 20% less to export customers. But cant guarantee that.

Cant remember if I posted this earlier in this thread or not. I know I meant to ... A comparison between a stock exhaust and the SR Racing number. As you will see, its not dramatically louder than stock. And much quieter than the remus I used to use.

At least on the video I like it better than stock, I might just have to get that upgrade for my X...

I've returned to the stock exhaust

I've found the bike to be about 10mph faster and has more torque, than with the Remus I had before

Apart from th weight, I reckon the stock exhaust is better in all areas

Sometimes aftermarket exhaust gains are a myth and in a lot of cases you actually lose bhp and torque

Some of my friends have found the same with Remus and BOS cans on their G650X series bike and have returned to stock can

A big detailed test of 15 aftermarket exhausts for the 1200 GS with all the big brands ...

Only 2 of the 15 increased power ... SR Racing and AC Schnitzer. All tested models of Leo Vince and Remus, Arrow, Laser etc, decreased power.

Of the 15, the SR Racing was also the closest to stock noise levels.

So for my money, there are only two exhausts in the race.

The factory BMW one, which is the quietest and 3rd out of 16 in terms of power, and the SR racing which is the most powerful and second quietest - it will also save you about 3 kgs over stock.

I had a Remus for the first 60,000 km on the bike. It was loud and it split open.

How much are the SR ones?

I recently bought a Xmoto with a Staintune exhaust, which is annoyingly loud. But I also got the stock exhaust, and have been thinking about reinstalling it. The last few posts would quickly convince me, except that I don't know what I'm doing...

Forgive my total ignorance, but is this a simple bolt on procedure? Is there any remapping necessary, etc?

Just a simple bolt on only.

To replace the stock exhaust to the stock header, you will need an exhaust gasket. All else is simple, although you need to remove the Remus bracket to get the stock bolt back in (at least I did).

I put 2 db reducers in the Remus and still prefer the sound of the stock, but this time I reinstalled the stock can and left the Remus header. Header is slightly shorter and doesn't fit fully into cut outs in stock muffler. I have used a shorten exhaust gasket, clamped and sealed the potential leak points, but will probably need a better solution this summer. To tell which header you have, the stock header shrinks in size from block to muffler inlet and the Remus grows in size.

My current record is 112 MPH on dash which is about 105 true (stock muffler and stock header). In addition to the better designed Remus header, I am doing a PC V, so I may be able to eek out an additional 1 MPH Going up on the front 1t helped me not hit rev limiter in 6th.

Also, most Staintunes have DB reducers - if yours is missing. My dyno tune on a Staintune on an SV650 showed better power with the insert installed.

Thanks for this info. But I'm a dummy, assumed the "S" was Staintune but its definitely Scorpion.

So, if I have the stock header, which I assume mine is cause it says BMW on it, I don't need a gasket, just bolt the old muffler (pipe) on?

stock header to stock exhaust pipe DOES take a gasket between the two.
