Performed the 600 mile service on the Tenere: Of course one of the washers came off and fell into the drain pan: Next was the rear end, not too much crud on the magnet: oil was pretty cruddy looking: Used one of these to refill the rear gear, works very well:
I caught that too. I use the same plastic containers for reloading stuff. Apparently, us gun guys have the same thoughts when we buy sandwich meat or see cheap ziplock bins on sale. I'm willing to bet that somewhere he has fired brass stored in coffee cans too. Edited: I just noticed that I had the same washer and dryer. Now its just getting weird.
Checked the valve shim clearences on the KLR, all won't fit a .008" feeler, and that's the lowest in my new set Tomorrow I'll have to pick up a better feeler gauge set and see if I can't pick up shims locally. As much bad of an experience as I've had with the screw and lock nut system, I really miss it now.
Rolled in yet another toolbox. Craigslist special, 1960's Craftsman. With keys, unbelievable. This is my 5th? 6th? toolbox. No ball bearing rollers, no fancy Snap-On label OR price tag... Realized the other day I have my electrical crap (wire nuts, soldering irons, strippers, heatshrink, microtorch...) scattered all over tarnation. Now all I need is a spool rack...
Attempted to remove the hub assembly on my Dodge 2500 4x4 to replace the u joints, only to find it's rust welded itself on nicely. Sigh.......
Have fun with that. Take your time and it will come out with either the power steering trick or an air hammer used carefully. They are a bastard though. Upon re assembly remember to use a liberal amount of good anti-seize on the cleaned machine surfaces.
A bit of painting on the Disco. The garage damaged it when it was in for It's MOT on Friday. Couldn't afford new parts this month so I decided to colour code some trim pieces that were broke after I repaired them. I also wanted to paint the trim under the headlight that had some peeling clear coat.
This picture makes me officially declare that i shall never bitch about 'cramped quarters' in my shop ever again
Pulled off the head on my 1964 Snow Bird blower. Briggs and Stratton 5 HP, it was stuck solid, now free with a bit of persuasion and penetrating lube. Previous owner indicated that it just 'froze'. I can't help but wonder if something hasn't fallen into the fan or what have you. We'll see if it's a runner in a day or so when the new headgasket comes in.
It is snug in there! Most everything I need is in there, except for a lift that is lol I do have to be quite tidy otherwise I can't find a damn thing!
That's a lot of green arrows! Have to put some heated grips on the SV today. Going to clean up the new chain too.
Yeah, I was thinking of using Kano Kroil for the lube. Figure I should just go with the best. Let it soak overnight and then hit it with heat and another soaking.
Got my Panels back on after painting. Rear lamp guards back on. Not sure if I like the shiny paint on the guards. Might pull them again and maybe try some plasti dip or something. They'll do for now. Better than smashed plastic anyway.
