Just picked up a new 2007 GS and took my first ride ever. Thanks to Bumknee and Adam for the escort and routing. It was AWESOME! Better than I ever imagined. :clap

Congrats on the new ride!! Maybe you meant to post this in GSpot :dunno

Or if you're going to post a ride report, I'll move it back to the RR forum.

What is the optimal RPM for shifting, cruising and riding the twisties? Does this engine require a break-in?

Break in happens in the first 1000 km (600 miles) and BMW recommends you not exceed 4000 rpm in the first 600 miles.

I find optimal cruising RPM is around 3500 to 4000 rpm. Going below 3000 in the higher gears is lugging the engine, not good. It's better to downshift than to lug the engine. My general rule is to keep the bike around 3500 rpm or higher from gears 2 to 6. 2nd gear has some torque below 3500 rpm, but I prefer not to lug it.
