Team SPEED could probably put a bid in for the "Eco" category next year then... Redneck supercharger running 98 proof moonshine qualifies as an "alternative fuel" doesn't it?

    Nooo,
Mythbusters tried Moonshine in a Camaro or Mustang and compared to normal Gasoline as they call Petrol over there :-)
Was way down on Power on Moonshine. Keep it for the Bivi

Lots of inmates and people know to ADV. Should be a great race of KTM versus Honda. Shame that there's no factory Yamaha representation and only one privateer on a WR450. Will we ever see Cyril race the Desert Challenge? I'm thinking not, although I used to think that was a KTM thing and that he would have something to prove on the Yamaha. Perhaps they're still working out the bugs from last January?

He has been there before, but nowadays he seem very selective in what else he does other than the Dakar - new challenges and different/ fun events even, seem to be on Cyril's agenda?

Nice recap! - although a couple of things I noticed on that video...

They get the intro titles wrong - it was the first time in Bolivia, not Chile, and they seem to make more of Despres' 4th o/a than Pain's podium?!

It is also telling how the Dakar has changed since the move to South America with the mechanics getting to work on the bikes in daylight - mid afternoon by the look of it!

A more focussed approach from everyone next year please!

Anyone noticed the Absence of a mention that Despres is 5 times Dakar Winner and not made the Podium with Yamaha .... just saying.

The Yamaha PR dept. surely cannot reasonably be expected to draw attention to goals that they fell short of (ie. Cyrils record in the past and potential winner - as opposed to his 4th place result in 2014).

But it Is interesting - as Jenny said - to note the focus on CDP (in 4th), in comparison to Olivers podium (3rd place)... guess there is no doubt as to who is the "star" attraction. :evil

All in all Yamaha's 3rd/4th behind the KTM juggernaught 1st/2nd, is still a very impressive effort given all things in consideration.

I hope that Cyril and the blue squad come back with all guns blazing next year... But it would seem for the moment, that the low profile - keep the "head to head" battles with opposition to a minimum - tactic that CDP has deployed in recent years, may be in play for the 2014 FIM rally season once again. YMF's no-show at the Abu Dhabi Desert challenge, where both KTM and HRC will be fielding a full strength effort... Hmmm. Tactics... or budget? :ear

Sure you can't expect Marketing to point to it, I just think it funny while comparing it to my companies Marketing department which is advertising using the same Approach.
This was in no means aimed at Yamaha as a valid choise of bike. Just having the squinting faces of the PR department in my head as they can't use this huge achivement of CDP, the 5 Wins. 4th for the first outing with the new team and bike is pretty remarkable though.

The no show is probably a combination of Tactics and Budget. I think to remember that CDP mentioned something of concentrating on the competitions in South America. Is he actually entered in the Ruta 40?

Heard through sources that are currently at the Dakar 15 presentation in Paris. Also, Carlos Sainz and Peterhansel are in the team.
