Very good blog mate, enjoyed orkneys report, was up in stromness myself a month ago so only just missed you guys.
I loved riding through the narrow streets of Stromness, I've still not been to the museum yet, I've heard its worth a look. Did you try the Orkney Patties?
Never got to try the orkney patties mate, i heard the local chippy in stromness was good, on the subject of patties, when i have been outside my native east yorkshire and gone in a fish and chip shop and asked for patties i've had some odd looks at my request, "Do you mean fishcake or pasty?" has often been the reply, this has mainly happened in southern england but also in other parts of yorkshire and in scotland as well!!.
I hadn't heard of the patties till I was in Orkney and I've lived here (scotland) all my life. Where else have you found them? The chippy in Stromness is good, lovely fish cooked to order. Well tasty.
Come to think of it i dont think i've ever had a pattie outside the Hull and East Yorkshire area, i know for sure they have been popular in the fish and chips shops round this area for a few generations, cant believe my mate who is an adopted orcadian now and has lived in stromness for 15 years never mentioned them to me, i wont be too hard on him mind because he did give us free lodgings forra few days and fed and watered us as well, all this talk of patties is making me well hungry, time for tea me thinks!!
You got a recipe? I'm up for trying to make something similar at home. I'll hopefully have the video and pics sorted for another Scotland bike trip so keep an eye on my blog, feedback is always welcome.
