Seriously, what are the odds that he bounces off of one boulder and chucks himself into the *other* boulder? 100%, I guess. Yeesh... hope he heals fast. P.S. Mostly unrelated, but I wonder what the distro of bike accidents looks like. I'm guessing most occur within 5 minutes of starting riding (your head isn't in the game yet, thinking of all the riding you're going to do, on familiar turf) and 30 minutes of ending riding ("I'm sooo close to home!"). Even logically recognizing this, I think I do more stupid things pulling out of my neighborhood than I do out on the open road.
I would imagine that we've all had OTE (Off-Trail Excursions) like this. Sometimes your guardian angel is amped up on lattes, and you are fine. Sometimes your GA is sneezing and sheet like this happens. I was coming down a baby head filled jeep trail a couple of years ago when the DRZ front end kicked out and I started swapping side in the middle of an aspen grove. It's amazing just how focused you become at times like this. I was eyeballing the big trees and rocks to my left one second, followed by the big trees and rocks to my right the next second. When the tires finally caught, I shot off the right side, missing a 2' tree by inches one side, and a 3' boulder by inches on the other. When the front end hit a juniper shrub, the bike endo'd, tossing me over the top. I did a backflip into the shrubs. Not a single scratch or bruise. Thank heavens for lattes.
