Hello all I was on the xr400 thread asking a question about a plated xr400 wondering if anybody has any info. The ques I have is I just bought a 400 that was previously plated the previous owner never surrendered the plate but only green stickered the bike, what is the best way of getting the plate reinstated? Actually in SF Bay Area. If I'm sol I'm OK with it it's an absolute blast. Here is a pic.

Yeah the guy who sold it to me is the one who just registered it green sticker. I was hoping to find out if there is a way to go about it. Since it had already been tagged. He also gave me all the Baja designs stuff.

Before you go to the DMV are you a member at AAA? If not, try to find a local registration agent and see if they can find a way. If you still have the plate and the plate number is on the pink, it might be worth a shot. The drones at the DMV have little reason to help.
IF they can make it fly, you may have some back fee's to deal with.
    Good luck.

I've heard mixed reviews about AAA lately. One guy I spoke to says they don't do mc anymore. Unfortunately I'm not a member. The plate number is not on the pink, he green stickered it and that number is on the pink. Maybe worth the membership fee to give it a try. Thanks for the info. Also the seller might be willing to help.

WRONG!!!!! Just registered 2 bikes through AAA. Some things they DON'T do is deal with non op's, your plate issue can ALMOST guarantee that it will be DMV ONLY issue, i said ALMOST. When registering MC's through AAA its CASH or CHECK only btw. I say go to the DMV & ask if they have some type of affidavit form you can fill out & explain the situation about the plate, you just might be surprised by the outcome + past registrstion fee's less penalties. Don't ask me how i know:D
