Does anyone know - for a fact - if it is transferrable to a new owner?

I have seen several posts (by sellers-natch) that imply that it is.

I was told by a dealer - who apparently didn't know until he (says he) looked it up - that it isn't.

As the second owner of a 10-month old Adventure that may have warrenty issues, obviously I have a vested interest.

    Thanks!

The warranty is only valid for the original purchaser. KTM will not transfer the warranty. As a dealer, I've had to deal with this before.

I don't agree with it. The bike comes with a 1 year warranty and should stay with the bike.

Good luck. I hope you get something worked out.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "delivery certificate"? I've read and re-read the "pre-delivery inspection and set up" form and also the owners manual and cannot find a reference to transfering the warranty.

I do have the "KTM Motorcycle Limited Warranty" form that comes with every new KTM. On this form it states "This warranty is not transferable and applies to the original purchaser only".

Please prove me wrong, as KTM has denied warranty claims that we have submitted on second owner bikes. If they have something in print proving that the warranty is transferable, It gives me a foot to stand on and the ability to make more customers happy.

That's Euro law, and applicable to anything traded between two people, a person and a company or two companies (AFAIK)

I have an extended warranty that the dealer sold me after I ask about one .
Pinnacle is the company and it was about $500 for 5 years.

Check what laws Arizona has- I believe warranty law is often state dependant, and there could well be a law in AZ saying that the manufacturer has to honor the original period, regardless of the owner.

What's wrong with the bike? :ear

The short story is oil in the cooling system.

Despite known water pump seal and head gasket issues on 950s, as of early last week the dealer hasn't found the problem.

I looked into that. Apparently the only person who can purchase the warrenty is the original purchaser from the dealer who sold him the bike.

    Likely a good investment.

Wow... which dealer are you using?

I had some of the black crap in my cooling tank. I was so afraid it was a similar problem. This weekend, I drained the coolant and flushed it out. Nothing but coolant. Nada... the coolant was *perfect*. I've replaced it with engine ice and plan to remove the cats in the very near future.

One down in your area. On the East side.

400 or so miles after I bought the bike, and 300 or so miles after the 7500 km service, I found a black crust covering the radiator cap filler hole. After puncturing the crist with my little finger, the cooling system was nearly empty.

Obviously, I found the source of my overheating problem. It took a couple of flushes to get the brown bubbly scum to disappear, and I then filled it with new coolant. So far he hasn't found oil in the (fresh) coolant, and the bike passes a leak down test. They were riding it around to try to see if they could duplicate the problem.

There is an issue with misaligned water pumps on some bikes. Remove the water pump cover and see if the impeller touches the cover. This is something you can do in your garage if you want cartainity.

It seems that the problem comes in two variations: If there is only a slight rub, it will blacken the coolant but not overheat. If full contact, the impeller cannot move and the bike will overheat.

    Hope this helps.
