I could do that but would need to unload my DRZ first. Anyone interested in an 03 E model with some mods?
They're selling the Stradas with high fender now as Stradale for 2014.. Still with cast wheels and the fender strut on the rhs. 5999,- + 399,- set up etc. costs. In Holland that is.. 'Real' Terras are not to be got anymore... Thinking of going for one in addition to my '09 GSA..
I test rode and almost pulled the trigger last week on a leftover terra for just over $6500 OTD including 6% tax come to find out that the dealer is no longer a husky dealer and effective this week they are not authorized to perform warranty work or even order husky parts or accessories!! that sucks so no go on the husky.. guess I am still bike shopping now, The new short list is: 2014 Bmw G650 GS, 2013 versus, 2013 nc700x, 2014 fz09, 2013 aprillia shiver, and a little out of my price range, 2013 Hyperstrada, 2013 street triple, 2013 speed triple and still considering possibly, a 2013 KLR 650, and 2014 CRF 250L 18 mile commute both ways (10 miles highway) and fun weekend bike is what i am looking for, not much off road around me but i seek and find when i can.. HELP me decide!!
No dirt? Get the Street Triple. It is one of the most fun street bikes out there, and comfortable too. Major bang for the buck. Sent from the voices in my head and transcribed by their drinking buddy...
I've wanted to nab a wrecked Street Triple for a dual sport build for years. That triple could make a beast of a dual-sport in the right configuration. -------- Sit Stay Ride: The Story of America's Sidecar Dogs Please donate here: www.sidecardogs.com
There is a gauge that can calculate real-time fuel consumption called Ultragauge. Do any of you know if it will be compatible with the Terra? Info from the manufacturer's website: "Does it work on Motorcycles? Yes, some of the newer fuel injection motorcycles have an OBDII certified interface. Look for an emission decal with "OBDII certified" text. It is very unlikely that carbureted motorcycles will be OBDII compliant." http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm
If we have the port, then it will work. You're looking for a port that looks something like this. Color is irrelevant. Some BMW cars have a round port, and you have to have an adapter plug that looks like this. I don't suspect they would have this on a motorcycle though.
Thanks, RD. I think the Terra has a round port near to the battery beneath the seat. I don't know for sure so will check later on.
If the port on the Terra is a standard BMW one and the same as that on the S1000RR then here are the instructions to mount an OBDII port: That was found in the notes accompanying this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Igj4vt3UXBU This is starting to look realistic and feasible! Is anyone else interested in real-time fuel consumption monitoring or is it just me? This (fuel consumption in real-time) is useful information for many reasons, especially when runnng low while crossing a desert, for example. I'm considering riding to Asia (depends if I can get a permit to solo ride across China, which is doubtful from what I've read. Does anyone know about that?), and monitoring fuel would be extremely important on such a journey.
I value this feature on a car. I can really maximize my fuel economy. However, on a motorcycle, I personally don't have much use for it. I already find myself watching it too much on a car, so I can only imagine the distraction on a motorcycle. -------- Sit Stay Ride: The Story of America's Sidecar Dogs Watch the trailer, spread the word: www.sidecardogs.com
With the accuracy of the dashboard counter for remaining fuel on the TR I don't really think it adds a lot of value.
On mine the Factory "Gallons Used" is spot on, I use it all the time, I am amazed how close it is every fill up, I am now trusting it. I Zero it every fill up.
Hi I am at a point now that the KTM 990Adventureis getting to Heavey for me . I still like the power though , from all the repots and Specs that I can find the Terra looks like a great all rounder for what I want to do . I have a KTM 990Adventure and a KTM 520EXC , I am at the point of still want to ride on fire tracks and one Main road riding as we'll as keeping up with the other riders on there BMW1200and BMW800 . In the past I have had a KTM 640Adventure that had enough power but the buzz on the seat was not good , from the info and your thread that I have read the Terra looks like a good bike as an all rounder but there is not a perfect bike to do all types of riding . I would like some input of your thoughts if the Terra would be what I could do both types of riding . Are some of the parts interchangeable from the BMW to the Terra. Thanks Tezza
This is much more important than knowing your mpg. If you're searching for the best speed for mpg use a stop watch to time how long it takes to use a specific amount of fuel (.1 or .2 gallons). Most likely your best mpg will be between 2750 and 3000 rpm.
On my last ride I got significantly worse mpg than I have been getting. I had been getting consistently 57 mpg with as high as 62 mpg. This time I got around 50 mpg. Sometimes less. Lots of culprits though. I was cruising much faster, up to 75 mph. It was the first trip with the Madstad windshield installed and it was raised to the highest position. Sure nice riding though. It was windy, sometimes a headwind. I had hard panniers on, but then I had them on when I got 62 mpg. I wasn't going this fast though. Drag increases with the square of velocity. But I am also suspicious of the Wuka King. I have out of town for many months and the mpg changes have occurred since my return. It is much colder now than when I last rode. I think the computer module may have recalibrated because it thinks it is REALLY cold. It may be running very rich. I seem to recall that the effects are only there during throttle change, though. I'll keep my eye on it and report any changes. I was counting on the better mpg to help reduce the extra fuel I would have to carry for my upcoming Alaska trip.
