They replaced the fuel pump, not able to replicate the problem. He's back on the road.

Do you know if the replacement fuel pump is an updated version of the one they replaced?

My friend just had his fuel pump replaced on his K1200GT. The cost was covered under a BMW recall.

Do any of you know of any other 2014 R1200RT's that needed the fuel pump replaced?

Well I just picked up a new 2014 BMW R1200RT. Traded in a 2011 BMW K13S.
That was my first Beemer and the clutch went at 8600 miles. Was not a happy camper but boy did the 12RT brighten my day. Gorgeous bike all around.

Test rode a '14 RT and Triupmph Trophy this morning. I'll givethe Trriumph it's due - that's a hell of a nice motor/driveline, and the bike overall is good value for money, but it was no contest. I'm going to put in a deposit for a '15 RT.

As has been said on here before, dynamically its a revelation for a big bike, every bit as nimble as my VFR in real world use and an order of magnitude more comfortable. Feels light and responsive, but planted and stable. A little squat hard on the gas from low speed, but stays controllable and steerable. Quiet cockpit, great ergos for me (5' 11"), and really nice spec.

That black with the reddish underlay is beautiful in the sun, too.

Edit: in unrelated news, I've got a nice '03 VFR with bags and Corbin for sale.

Has anyone seen a good comfortable top case for the new RT? I'm looking at the bike so I can do long rides with my wife.

You do not like the factory ones, or is it the cost? What size do you want?

GIVI makes some nice ones at less than half the cost of the factory ones.

The BMW case that I have on my R12R has a very small pad that is not very soft. Cost is not a factor. I'd like something like what the big K bikes have.

The big K-bike case fits the Wethead RT and can have a substantial backrest. However, if your wife is wearing a riding jacket with a back protector in it (and she should), then a pad on the case is not needed at all.

I got my bike back on August 29th. It's been a dream. It had just under 700 miles on it and I now have 4100 miles on it. Unlike every other BMW I've owned, this bike does NOT burn any oil. In the 3400 miles since the first oil change there isn't a perceptible drop in level in the window.

I've added a DIN plug on the side panel to run my compressor and use the Battery Tender when necessary. I found at the Redwood[FONT=&quot] Rendezvous that the outlet on the canbus will not run my compressor... opps. I also added several Ram Balls on both sides of the handlebars for various things.

The bad: The Sirius radio sucks. I got the service manual to see if the connection to the antenna is loose. It ran fine until the first service I wanted to lower the footpegs a little but the brake lever is NOT adjustable AT ALL. No peg lowering unless I want to build my own brake lever.

I do love this bike!

Well, my new RT is sitting in the garage and can't be ridden.

Ain't got no seat!

Sent off to Russell. Never had a bike that didn't eventually get a Russell but always had a second seat to use while mine was being built. Having it sit there is hard to do!

I have about 2,500 miles on it. I like it more as I get more miles on it. Suspension has broken in and is much more compliant. They are firm but not rough at all. The "soft" setting is only good for really smooth roads as it just doesn't have enough damping on rougher surfaces. That may be my only complaint of the bike! My old RT with Ohlins shocks rode really nice on the highway. Getting 46 mpg local riding. Looks like a bit less for high speed cruising. Still better than the old RT. I didn't buy the bike for the power but it is sure nice to have. I was concerned I might ride it harder with that power but I have found it doesn't "ask" to be ridden hard. It is just there when you ask for it! I have the engine guards with footpegs so that is good to go for trips. I installed the Skene Design lights in my trunk and up front for visability. No issue at all with CanBus with these. I built some Lexan air deflectors for the cowl area under the windscreen to block air from there and I have a custom made lip on the windscreen. I am done with that, this setup is the best I have had for quiet, smooth airflow on a bike.

I hope these new Beemers hold up well. If so, they have a bike that will set a new standard for owner satisfaction.

I'm having my K1600GT top case painted to match the RT, not a big deal. My dealer has a painter that does good work.

I decided to have mine painted to match my Quartz Blue RT. Scheduled to be painted week after next. The piece that gets painted is actually just a shell that is screwed to the hinged lid. Very easy to remove.

The first gremlin has paid me a visit, a new cruise control switch is on order. Funny, it stopped working during the ride to the dealer for the recall work on the shifter; the key to comedy, timing.

I am looking at a lightly used '14 to augment my '06-950adv and am wondering about service intervals and if I can "service" anything on this new electronic wonder. I do all of my own work on the carbed ktm and am looking forward to fuel injection, for sure. Valves should be easy to get to, how often do they need checking? or do they, surely they could use a hydraulic lash adjuster by now? Or should I just give up and get to know a dealer in my time zone?

Fun you should mention that - my CC switch get's replaced tomorrow. What is the recall thing on the shifter?

There is a recall for a fastener issue with the Shift Assist Pro. Not sure of the details, dealer called and I simply took the bike in; like a cow in a Far Side strip.
