(5-4) Sabathia goes 8 frames, 9 k's, gets called for a balk, and receives a triple play(4-6-5-6-5-3-4) to get out of the eighth inning.

(6-5) Two of three at home is a good start especially against the Orioles. Kuroda throws a complete game resulting in a shutout. Off tonight and and a series with the Diamondbacks at home begins tomorrow.

Say what? The orioles had a nice season last year, but there is no 'especially against the orioles', at least not yet - the Yankees should expect to win 2 of 3 from them pretty much every time.

Head to head, the Bombers were 8-7 against the Orioles last year in the regular season. The birds are better team this year and the Yankees are decimated with injuries to four starters so far.

As for better than last year, they seem to be largely the same team as that which ended the year, with that big run to get them to that big +7 run differential (after being negative most of the year)... A lot of people think last year was a fluke for them - I'm willing to be convinces otherwise, but I'm skeptical. |

(8-6) Two close games with the Diamondbacks, but we could not turn the Hat Trick despite Cervelli and his solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to tie it up. Hughes improved with 7 frames and kept it close. We had a shot until the 12th inning when Phelps gave up 4 runs. Jeter out until the All-Star break.

(12-9) The road trip was a wash at (3-3) vs. Jays & Rays. Now back home, three long balls were enough to stay ahead and get a win last night. Pitching seems to be erratic especially in the first few innings for some members of the rotation. This 10 game home stand may be helpful in sorting out some of the bugs. We'll see.

(15-9) A sweep in the Bronx over the Jays brings us to a three game set with the Astros. Kudos to Hafner & Overbay with the long balls at the right time. Pettitte on the hill tonight.

(15-10) Pettitte got shelled last night: 10 hits/7 runs over 4.1 frames. Hopefully the Bombers can bounce back.
