    Yup.
    It's time for AVR14.
We live on a 5 acres, 16 miles South of Hood River, just a few miles outside of Parkdale, OR.
....And we wanna invite y'all to our house for the Apple Valley Rally 2014 !!

While it has not been the best of years for me for riding and general hooliganizationating,
..... I intend to make up for it all at this year's Apple Valley Rally '14.

This will be our FOURTH year for the Apple Valley Rally!!
See some posts on past years:

Official Rally dates will be Thursday, October 2nd thru Sunday October 5th.
But....as with every other year, early arrivals are welcome (to help!), and late leavers are also welcome to hang out an extra day. We have space. Five acres of space. Space for you, space for your friends, space for your motorhome, tents, bikes, cars, trucks, trailers, space for you dogs to run around freely, and even space for your mambo toy-hauler, with the best spaces available for those that can creatively steer their beds-on-wheels into hard to get to places, and plenty of easy to access flat space for those that just wanna pull in quick, and pour a drink or crack a beer. And the adjacent neighbor's 10 acres is the Motorhome/Trailer overflow if we get too many comfort queens :d . There's LOTS of ride-in tent space for ALL you ADVers back in the mowed weeds and trees.

Rally Rules: Y'all are welcome. If you are reading this and you like people and fun, then you are welcome to join us. It's that simple. Your dogs are most certainly welcome also. If you don't like people, riding motorcycles, campfires or having fun, then this isn't your gig. Ride where you want, when you want. No real starting times, no hurries, no hassles. Just ADV-style camping and riding. Yes, camping includes drinking, and riding may include crashing, as is the ADV way.

Costs: No cost if you want to eat whatcha brung, or minimal cost if you want to eat what's prepared for you. No official entry fees, just a jar to throw $3-$5 per meal in if you wanna eat what we're cooking. And we'll have plenty of good food for anybody and everybody......Fajitas on Friday, we'll BBQ some beef & chicken and hamburgers on Saturday night. We'll have a Pig Roast again on Sunday at Noon to keep you around long enough to enjoy the final day.

    Rally highlights:

There is SOOOO much to ride here. Awesome pavement, including looooong & twisty single-lane paved forest roads:

Easy gravel fire roads; some smooth & fast for drifting at 60-70mph, some deep and fresh to sit back and float. Lots of more challenging gravel stuff with....some with surprises here and there,

and plenty of 100+ year old bumpy & nasty original and un-improved wagon roads and LOTS more stuff in-between Pretty much 360 degrees of riding, with the Mt Hood National Forest less than 5 miles away.

Most just venture out on their own each day, but these are Rally Favorites:

Thursday evening ride to Red Hill Lookout.
I'll be busy much of Thursday greeting and hosting, but about 5pm I have to go to some stoopid class in PDX, so Mustangshelly will lead the rough ride to Red Hill Guard Station. The views are MOST AWESOME :norton

Friday: An OHV Area Ride for those that like the trails (OHV Pass required), and also a longer-ish 160+ mile Dual-Sport Ride for those that wanna experience old wagon roads like Bennett Pass Rd, Grasshopper Rd, a bit of Barlow Rd,...and the back way home from Tygh Valley on Clarks Mill Rd, through Friend, Oregon.

Saturday: More OHV for those that like trails, and for the more experienced Dual-Sporters, at about 10am-ish, I'll lead a rough 110+ mile, now-famous "Suicide Ride" into and back out of the Mill Creek Valley. This includes Mill Creek Ridge Rd on the way home:

Hedges Grade, the steep, loose and rocky grade going down into Mill Creek Valley:

Complete with crossing of North Fork Mill Creek:

This ride ^^^ is not for everyone,...it's for those that enjoy challenges and the steep, loose and rocky stuff that sometimes breaks bikes that don't keep the throttle on.

While I prepare the pig Sunday morning, Mustangshelly will lead the 'Zen Ride' (our own version of "Church") to the Red Hill Guard Station, then back home in time for the Pig Roast:

YES, this invitation is for YOU !!
    See you here :norton

OK... For the third year in a row I'm going to try and make it. Hopefully no more last minute work will crop up.

I'll be up for some laid back rides. Two shoulder surgeries in the past 3 years have taken their toll.

Gonna have to say IN on this one. :)
The area around Hood River/Parkdale is quickly becoming my fave place to play on two wheels. Good pavement, good gravel, good dirt, good single track can be had all in one area.

Might even leave the truck home this time and just toss the gear on the bike. Gas is not too far from you I think. And I hope to have a bigger tank anyway by then (Why they only put a 2gal on a bike that needs to explore forests is beyond me.....)

Yeah I'm waiting for the Acerbis one to come out but it keeps getting pushed back.
$40 cheaper than the IMS one and they are the same size.

Guess I should just stop being cheap and get the IMS one so no one has to hear about it anymore. :roflhehe

OK, last year I planned on coming, and then broke my foot.

So, this year I will say "Definitely Out."

That way, maybe I will be able to actually show up, and ride.
