Yep. After 11,486 days of continuous employment at one company, I retired on Dec 31, 2007. I had a good career. Made the company quite a bit of money; helped the environment; and hopefully impacted the careers of a few folks. But after 31 years, one wonders what it's like on the outside.

2008 will be the Year of the Lobster, as I attempt to fulfill many of the motorcycle travel ideas I've dreamed of, but never felt could come true.

The 1st of these is a trip to Mexico, with some Central America options. :evil

I'm not making a formal, rigid itinerary. I've merely noted some areas of Mexico that I'd like to see:
    - great motorcycle roads
    - Spanish colonial towns
    - archeological sites

I also hope to drink a few beers, have some good meals, and build up some stories to share with you when I come back.

There are between 4 and 7 other folks traveling with me. All good guys that know how to ride and that love to travel by motorcycle.

Me? Yo hablo español. I have roots in Mexico, and I hope to visit some of the small towns were my grandparents / great-grandparents were born.

We leave for Mexico on Friday, January 4. I, and I'm sure some of my fellow travelers, will try to keep you informed of our progress and trip highlights.

HOLA, if you are coming my way to Baja, in Ensenada you have a friend that wants to help you with your mission, ok in the :freakydrinking area at least.

If you need anything I could help just PM me and the best of luck!!!

    Bienvenido....

No Ride Report is complete without a discussion of the motorcycle.

I'm taking my Wee Strom (Suzuki DL-650). I bought it used this past summer from another inmate on Advrider, and he kept it in outstanding shape. Plus he had it farkled up (accessorized for you n00bs) just right.

That seat you see is a Russell Day Long. This is my 3rd DayLong seat. They fit my butt very well. My butt will NOT hurt on this trip. :nono

If you look carefully, you'll see an aftermarket horn (Stebel) attached to the front cylinder. This horn puts out 130 db. It should wake up a sleepy taxi driver in Mexico City. :deal :lol3
    [IMG]

A GPS (Garmin 276c) with Bicimapas of Mexico to help with navigation. Notice the heated grip controller. :D
    [IMG]

And 18,628 miles on the odometer prior to departure.

I'm taking a set of Guia Rojí maps (the definitive maps for Mexico). Mexico and Central America maps from AAA. And Lonely Planet travel books for Mexico and Central America.

    Gracias, Damasovi! :wave

Sería un placer! Baja should happen towards the end of the trip. Early to mid February. Expect a PM. :deal
