Just left this morning for a 10 trip around BC ( and maybe Alberta ).My wife is riding from Seattle to Vancouver BC on her bicycle and I'm meeting her there.Sunday we leave Vancouver and go ???? ( no plan just letting the rig lead the way ). Leaving Seattle.. My wife leaving the U.W at 5:45 this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh ya she is 52 and in better shape than when she was 18!!.She rode 100 miles today in 90+ degree heat !!. Me on the other hand prefer to sit my fat old but on the rig and travel !!. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nwrider I don't know your plans but there are some rural routes you shoud not miss.. The Douglas Lake Ranch road from Merrit to Vernon, the Otter lake road from Merrit to Princeton, The high road along Anderson lake from D'arcy to Seton potage, the Yellowhead highway from Prince George to McBride with the Rocky Mountains on your left and the wandering Fraser River in the valley before you I've rtidden all thrse routes and I've only scratched the surface Good gawd amighty the place is magic.Get yourselves out of Vancouver as quickly as you can.Having lived here all my life has not influenced my opinion. at all.... Good riding!!
Hey thanks Dave,we will.Willy, thanks for the suggestions I'm looking at the BC map right now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
:d This is way cool really. Both of you getting out and doing your thing with some great interaction along the way. You guys are about the same ages as my wife and I. Awesome to see you both still enjoying the adventure. Enjoy and be safe both of you. Oh and tell your wife she will always be a championto me. Cheers, Bruce
Hey Willy, give me a starting point for your routes,I can't find those places on my map.We will be leaving from Down town Vancouver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nwr Most of the routes I described are not well marked on regular road maps. It depends on your tolerance for gravel roads and sometimes rustic accomadation. A copy of Bc backroads map book s a good thing;Shoot me a pm with contact info I talk much faster than I type.
Day 2,left Bellingham about 45 min ago heading for the Canadian border in Sumas..Kate left about 7am for her 80 mile ride to Vancouvet.Alot cooler today !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Day 3,We stayed in Vancouver last night and walked around Davies st ( Vancouvers alternative lifestyle area!! ).Great food and interesting people watching !!.They had a Zombie walk and that was WEIRD but kinda cool.Today we are heading north thru Whistler and staying in Pemberton. Am following you.....Pemberton,,,,, You gonna head for Kamloops also???..if so don't forget to visit Brock at "Side Effects". Great Outfit.. Ride safe, ride far... Cheers....
Day 4 We stayed at a great hotel just outside Pemberton ( Mt Curry ?? ) the Hitching Post motel!!.Headed out for Lilliooet this morning and took the Duffy Lake Rd,OMG that has to be of the 2 best roads I have ever been on,BUT it was alot of work wrestling around a 1100+lb 60hp rig on that road,I spent more than a few miles in 2nd gear !!.Went from Lillooet to Cashe Creek and somehow missed the turn to Kamloops and didn't relize it till 50km south!!.Ended hp taking Hwy8 at Spences Bridge to Merrit, that is one looooonely road.We ran out of gas about 20 miles down 8 BUT my handy 2 gallon RotoPax saved the day.So we are staying in Merrit tonight and not sure were we are going tomorrow, probably headind SE. You folks are in the pefect spot for several easy gravel routes. When I say easy people regularly take these routes in small sedans. 1 take the douglas lake ranch road a few klms north of Meritt on the old Meritt to Kamloops hwy. Its 2-3 hr ride that will take you back to the hwy ar Westwold and then to Vernon 2 take the Otter lake rd to Princeton and go East thru Osoyoos and Grand forks. The Richter pass from Keromeos to Osoyoos is highly reccomended, as is the ride up Anarchist mtn and down to Rock Creek. These are all routes I've taken and love.
Thanks for the routes,we are going to head Osoyoos I think so that might work.I'm not sure about gravel though because My wife just noticed that the right fork leg is covered with oil.I just looked at it and sure enough the fork seal in shot !!!.So we will be seeking out smoooooth roads !!. Day 5 Well before I go any further let me tell you that both me and my wife have decided that SHE will NOT be the navigator !!. With her navigating we missed our turn 2 minutes from the hotel this morning and ended up going 85 miles out of our way.So when the mistake was found I told her ( she said I never told her ) that we needed to go in to Hope for gas before we headed to Princeton.Well she routed us towards Princeton and 20 miles later we ran out of gas AGAIN !!!, RotoPax to the rescue and got us to Manning stafion for gas.We finally got to Osoyoos after a 2 hour ride thru a thunder storm that had to have dropped atleast a Inch of rain and we were NOT wearing rain gear.Oh the wonders of hot weather,we were dry before we got to our motel. We are staying at a beach front hotel and I'm writing this in a beach chair on the beach watching the T storms up north and drinking a COLD BEER !!.
