My wife evidently won a lottery spot to run the Moab half marathon... and the town is booked solid!:huh

Anyone have a lead on a decent place to stay? I'll probably bring the 300 and do a trail loop on Saturday while she's running if anybody wants to join.

    Hey PFB,

    Met you last night.

Have you tried any of the cabins available at the camp grounds?
    Or B&B's?

    Oldmanb777 may have some ideas.

You could always stay in Green River, not too far from Moab, that's what I do when Moab is booked up. Beware of the rooms that might be available, I've looked at some sketchy rooms and turned around and left.

Last year we tried to get rooms when it was pretty much packed, and got into a Kamper Kabin at the KOA. On the south end, not convenient to walking downtown for dinner, but a roof over your head.

    Yo Paul,

I like the Apache. Plus, it's walking distance to Milts! That isn't going to help your wife, but you'll need something to eat!

If you call them, ask for a remodeled upstairs room.

Actually, Milts might still be closed for the season.

You might try "Cottage on the Park". It's a vacation rental that I have used several times. Also Red Valle homes. It's a trailer park that has rentals. Havn't stayed there for a while. Since it is off season, a Motorhome rental might make for a nice vacation, then the options for a place to stay becomes almost endless. I would think you could get a pretty good deal since it's off season for a MH. I have seen some private ones on CL, don't know if that would be good or not for you. What time is the run? Fruita or grand Junction isn't that far if the race isn't too early.

Stay in Fruita, Colo and drive the 1 to 1.5 Hrs to Moab the morning of the evevent. Fruita is the coolest little secret with lots of new lodging places. Moab is overated.

    Good Luck

Thanks for all the suggestions... Nothing so far except for a $300/night 'cabin' 25 minutes out of Moab. :eek1

RV rentals are super cheap this time of year ($60/night + $0.17/mile), and Arches has plenty of spots in Devils Playground available, but I hate doing the 400 mile drive in a big pig not to mention the $250 worth of gas I'd burn...

If you drive at a reasonable MH pace, the gas isn't too bad. Modern MH will do 12+ mpg. I bet you could negotiate for the mileage. Also, could you rent one in Grand Junction? That might be a good option.

Actually, that's a pretty good idea.. I like Fruita!

But I'm not going to get the 100 miles from Fruita to Moab in ~60 minutes on anything less than my 950 in Super moto trim, preferably with a police escort or at least a get-out-of-jail-free card. I think 2 hours is more realistic, maybe more with race day traffic. It would mean heading out of Fruita about 5 or 5:30 to make the race start.

But still, seems like it might be the best option. Plenty of rooms on the 20th, it's the 19th that is booked solid.

The mileage is normally $.25, down to .17. None of the major RV rental companies rent in GJ, but I could call around and see if there are any local RV places have rentals.

300 is CO plated and legal (well, mostly :lol3 )

I was thinking south side since the race will be coming in from River Road and the North side.

Maybe Slick Rock Trail (I'm guessing less than normal bicyclists that early and with the big running race in town), or Fins & Things, or Porcupine Rim, or Lockhart Basin, or ???

Kane Creek is also fun, but I'm guessing not ideal for March riding.

Another option might be Monticello. It looks like the the Canyons (Or something like that) has rooms for ~$70 a night. Hadn't checked for race weekend....
