I have an 86 xr600 that runs great, until today. The bike has been sitting for some time and I dumped the gas in the tank and refueled with fresh gas. The bike poped on the first kick and started on the second. After the warm up and oil recheck I took off for a spin. At the end of my road the bike died rolling up to the stop sign and I pop started it, no problem. I got a couple miles from home and the bike was really doging it. It made it home but barely. It would run rough when I got into the second carb and woudn't go at all unless the choke was on. I am not completely stupid and I have a complete parts bike to rob pieces off. What is the best way to attack this issue?

Check for Water in the gas first. My 5 year old thought my Xt needed "gas" and dumped a bottle of water into the tank over the winter. :eek1
He confessed to it after I drained the tank and found 10 to 12 ounces of water in there.
