    Anticipation: Buell-Rotax
Buell prepares a model of street based on XB RR

Buell XB RR, the last model of the Buell mark destined to a use in
circuit, will have its commercial version. The new Buell will be
animated by bicylindrical a Rotax motor and, although still its exact
appearance is not known, we we advanced to you how it will be with this
    fotomontaje.

A few months ago, the test equipment of Motociclismo was invited to
prove in circuit one of the 150 units of Buell XB RR, the last
accomplishment of Buell destined to the world of the circuits. Then, now
we advanced to you that the American mark thinks to send to a version of
street of this moto of competition and that their intentions go outposts
much more of which you can suppose. In fact, at the end of August and in
the mythical layout of Dry Lagoon, Buell has predicted to make the
presentation of a new product. We bet that he will be the one of this
    Buell XB RR of street.

We do not know its commercial denomination, but we know that he will
mount bicylindrical a Rotax motor in V, possibly of 1,000 cc, cooled by
water and fed by electronic injection, very similar, to which mounts
Aprilia RSV 1000 R, with that, without a doubt some, will compete in the
    market of the sport motos.

Obvious, we still do not have official images of, call it, at the
moment, Buell-Rotax, but knowing the last designs Buell and the map
courses by which the industry of the sport motorcycle moves, we have
ventured ourselves to make a fotomontaje, builds of our habitual
collaborator J.M Guerin. Of him or you have seen other anticipations in
motociclismo.es like Honda CB 1000 F Hornet or the Ducati Monster.

As you can see in the image, the new Buell will have the classic
structure of the accomplishments of the house, that is to say, very
short and rigid chassis and perimetral front disc, in its case with
    clamps of 8 pistons.

Inverted bracket Öhlins and cantilever shock absorber are our bets for
the scheme of suspensions. Also, we understand that the secondary
transmission will have to be by chain, like XB RR, instead of the
    typical dentated strap of Buell.

And, of course, its design, spectacular. Let us hope that in August we
pruned contarte more things. Until then you will have conformarte with
    our fotomontaje.

A Buell with a Rotax v-twin, water cooled motor? If this is true, it is a big departure from Buell's practice of using the Sportster engine as a base for their power plants.

And, because H-D owns Buell outright, it's about as likely as GM using a Honda engine in one of their cars. :lol3

Um, you know the top-line Saturn Vue is powered by the Honda 3.5-liter V6, right?

Harley uses the V-Rod motor (a radical departure from their standard engine designs, via Porsche :D ), though they do manufacture it. Too bad they don't put that nice motor in a sport-touring chassis... Maybe Buell will do it, someday.

I would think that the Buell division is given a certain degree of latitude, as their bikes are a radical departure from Harley's standard designs. A Rotax powered Buell model isn't all that out of character for Buell. They think out of the box alot and it works for them.

FYI, Harley owns the rights to Rotax motors in North America. Harley's MT500 is a Rotex powered.

Hmm, Rotax is a part of Bombardier, which makes Ski-Doos and Sea-Doos. Both are North American made, and use Rotax engines. Or does H-D have rights to them for motorcycle use only? What's a MT 500?

Read an interview with Eric Buell. He said the Vrod motor was originally designed for the Buells. He said that HD stepped in and morphed the design away from the original intent (too heavy, too tall) so far that it became unusable for Buell's purposes. He said the XB motor was still able to meet the emissions standards and thought that it would continue to meet their needs.

We've been hearing rumors of a new liquid cooled motor for a year now, but everyone thought it would be an in-house effort. A rotax counterbalanced liquid cooled V would move the Buell upmarket and IMO is an excellent choice. The torque and fuel economy of the XB motor is OUTSTANDING, but the rev limit, the heat, and the idle vibration are issues. The unique HD motor has it's attraction, but a direct competition with BMW, KTM, Aprilla, and many more will make this bike much more attractive. I can only hope they keep the belt drive and the price in the same range.

    A good read...
