Hey Folks, looking at the one piece suit from Teiz MS (big thread in the vendor section). Does anyone ski or snow board in their suits? Looks like it might be a good idea to me, but I'd like some feedback. All ears.... George
Nope, not me... When skiing I go fast on technical terrain, I need stretchable clothing. Didn't try that specific suit on, but my bike and ski gear are made differently when it comes to putting it together... However, if you were to ski for fun only, then I think that the Teizs suit will be just fine once you remove the shin armour...
Got a Desente Gortex with Thinsulite one piece for downhill skiing. (20 years ago) I dont wear it out much anymore, the colors are dated, shiny black with dayglow orange accents. But I still do wear it under jeans and leather jacket on 35 degree motorcycle rides. Never had a problem with binding or flexibility untill I gained 15 lbs.
If I had some cool riding gear I would use it for skiing too. I would be styling in the Hobacks. I do use my old out of fashion powder suit on my bike though.
1 piece still works on the bike. those in 1 pieces on the mtn are know as wearing fag bags. only a few companies left making snow 1 pieces anymore and those buy are usually cheesy texan women who don't know any better. all the snow fashion is being driven by 2 piece snowboard designs.
I too caved in to the fashion police. I got over my homophobia long time ago and could care less what gender people think I am any more. The next time I go to Solitude or Alta I think I'll bring along my greasy one piece North Face. Hey! I'm married to a cheesy Texan and shes a halfway decent skier too. Back in the day she was a pretty good dirt biker too. Dang, I miss those days.
I totally shred it in my Savanna II and my Technik winter bibs with knee pads and goretex XCR... bitchin'
I'm assuming your refering to alpine skiing and not cross country. I've been skiing for 30 years and have never been a fan of 1 piece ski suits since they don't allow much flexabiliy in adjustment for temp or fit. I've owned a few expensive ski jackets but the the best system I've come up with is my polar fleece jacket (this is not regular fleece - it's much thicker and stronger) and pants. I got these at Mountain Equipment Coop but any outdoor store should carry them. They are about $100 each. The jacket has under arm zips when it gets hot. Over this a wear a Goretex shell jacket, and Goretex shell bib pants from another manufacturer. With the right under layer, it's kept me warm down to -25C for prolonged periods and is great in warmer temps with the under arm zips open, and fewer layers. The combination of the bib pants and the sinch cord around the fleece jacket, keeps the cold and snow from coming up the bottom. Just remember that anything that makes you sweat and get damp when you exert yourself is going to make you really cold and wet when you stop moving. Breathability and venting is very important to prevent this. Motorcycle gear is a bit heavy, makes you sweat when your active, and not really flexable enough for skiing. If you only ski a few times a year it's fine if you remove the armor, impact injuries to joints are not a issue in skiing cause you land on snow, it's the twisting injuries (bindings are not set too tight or hitting trees :) But it's less than ideal if you ski a lot. I find a lot of high end ski suits are more fashion oriented than technical.
