Shawn, I can probably put my hand on a "like new" helmet for you since I wear Xlarge. You'd be surprised how many helmets an ex helmet VP has laying around.

Gloves are an easy one too.

Luke, I need to do the rear linkage on my Tengai....it is just like the KLR....can you bring your tools over to my place and help me for a 1/2 hour or so?

I dont know anything about about KLRs/Tengais, but I know how to turn a wrench...I'd be happy to do so in exchange for helmet/glove consideration.

Some of the textile gear looks like it could be patched. AJs in Dublin has done some stuff for me...correctly and reasonable

That helmet might buff out :lol3

Looks like the gear did the job. Theres some decent closeouts on Helmets now if you poke around. Sucks. Sucks less walking away from that

I had to replace my helmet and jacket, and I scored both a direct replacement for my jacket and an identical barely-used helmet for under $150 on fleabay. Other than the colors, I have the exact same gear I crashed in (and liked a lot). If you look around, gear can be had really reasonably.

I'd like to ride behind you two on the KLRs and get some video, then add the Benny Hill theme music to it and run it at double speed :rofl

I posted this in the thumpers forum and thought you guys might be able to advise:

I have a r1200gs and I want to go deeper into the woods and trails. I'm considering buying an enduro bike with a head and tail lights, then getting it plated. I want to be able to get on the street for a few miles between trails, but only as needed. I'll add a brake light, but technically the bike will not be street legal in Ohio. However, It will be more suited for trail riding than a true dual sport. Is this a good or bad idea?

If you have it plated, it's street legal. All you need in Ohio is a working headlight and brake light, and I believe a mirror. Pretty damned easy and cheap to do that.

I've done the same thing. I have an XR250R which I've dual-sported by adding the Tusk DS lighting kit. The biggest drawback I have is that the bike, being geared for trail riding, is slow on the road. I can get it to 65 but its screaming at top revs to reach that speed. If I had it to do over, I'd have gotten a WR250R, which is pretty much the best, lightest DS bike out there right now.

    good luck
