    devious, very devious

The thing is .... she has already staked her claim that it was my fault for leaving the bike there. I admit some liability in this matter (I did forget, after she made me get up in the dark to turn off the water main when a tap started leaking). Relationships are far more complex than insurance claims.

Ironically I told her to keep Saturday free and was planning a surprise ride and picnic for her birthday.

I just hope it's fixed or replaced by October long weekend when I have an epic ride coming up. There's never a "good time" for this but really any other time would have been better than now.

Well of course all of this hypothetical discussion about a bike at home involves somebody that I heard about...

Yeah. I don't mean to sound Machiavellian, but this is the way the universe unfolds. They'll always make bikes (until they stop production.) Don't dirty your nest, if you have a right good one. One good lover is worth all the bikes ever made. That's my opinion. I have it on authority that I'm an A-hole.

At the end of the day, it's just a bike :cry... yes, you're probably p*ssed off, but she didn't run over you or kids, no one died. The bike can be replaced (even if insurance didn't cover it).
She didn't deliberately run over the bike (or atleast one would hope not!), so she's also feeling guilty. So get her some flowers. Follow Canuman's advice...
What happened, has happened, there is no "undo" command. Keep your fingers crossed and insurance will cover it anyway.

I did. So what? The best thing we can do is unscrew ourselves. Word.

Bike owner submits a no fault claim to bike insurer. Car owner/driver submits claim to car insurer. Car insurer pays the lot. The excess is whatever is due on the car policy. Did the car insurer clearly point out to you the "damage caused by spouse" exclusion clause in your policy? Hmmm.

Thats how it would be with 2 complete strangers. The fact that the 2 individuals happened to be married should not make a pinch of shit difference.

Any argument to the contrary from either of them, lawyer up and they back down straight away.

    Enjoy the sex.

Claim on your bike insurance and let the insurers sort it out.

The smartest thing you can do is reassure your wife that it's okay.

We will probably have a good laugh about it one day. Though laughter is not what comes to mind just at this moment.

I'm sure it will focus my attention about where I park the bike in future.

    Bugger,

We had a very similar thing happen to us a few years back.

Me to missus: "Put your car away." Missus obliges & goes outside.... for a long, long time....

Much later comes back in crying: "You're gonna kill me....." Turns out that she "forgot" that the black (& new at the time VE SS) Commodore was parked outside as well, drove into it in her Prado. Result: Prado slightly scratched, Commodore unrecognisable from behind...

I can't begin to tell you what a nightmare it was to convince AAMI the legitimacy of the claim (2 cars owned by spouses crashing in the driveway :huh). But in the end it was sorted out after god knows how many phone calls, written explanations etc...

Unfortunately the make up "sex on demand" only lasted so long :cry. Soon it was "why the hell did you park a black car, at night, THERE?!??!"

The worst part, now our premiums are triple what they used to be!

Good luck, hope you have an accommodating insurance company (& wife )

I guess I'll know the answer to all such important questions soon. Life is certainly an adventure, but not the kind I had in mind.
