I've been searching for an XR400 thread, but no luck. There's a DRZ thread and a DR350 thread, and a XT225 thread, and a KLR thread. I've seen quite a few pics of XR400's here, so I know some of you have them. Well, I just joined the club, and am looking forward to exploring places my KLR and my 950 won't go. Here's my first pic. If you have some of your XR 400, post 'em up! The bike is plated and came with a White Bros. header and can, a beefy skidplate, and pro taper bars with enduro engineering barkbusters. Other than that it is stock. As I do mods, etc. I'll try to post here, but I'm a so so mechanic. What I'll be sure to post here are pics of the various explorations this bike is sure to take me on. Come on summer!
Over in the Racing forum, VDG posted these. (hope you don't mind me re-posting them VDG) This is Jean Azevedo and his Dakar Rally XR400R
Here is my 96. The OG of the last gen. Its ice and snow here, so I took it apart to do some good cleaning!
here's my new to me 2001, bought it Monday night and plated it today Duke, there's your ST behind the snow shovel and CB550 Ok, back on topic... Immediate modifications will include; Eibach springs front and rear to support my weight. Scotts triple clamp with sub mount bar clamp and 1 1/8th ProTaper CR-HIs (an actual damper will follow when I've saved some more pennies) Cycra pro-bend solution mount handguards with the small shields better footpegs complete re-greasing of steering head and swingarm bearings brake light so I'm legal horn so I'm legal some sort of soft bags a set of Maxxis Desert ITs and some heavy duty tubes maybe an 8" BD Halogen I'm sure I'll think of more stuff I need
We're going to have a fun summer with these, Scot! What about a fuel tank? I think I'll need more range. Clarke or Acerbis?
Yes we are I've had both Acerbis and Clarke tanks (never an IMS though) and I like the Clarkes. The Clarke only adds .8 gallons though so don't know if it would be worth it. check this out (that guy has two for sale but don't tell anyone)
Here's mine: Loved that bike; but had to go with an e button KTM. I don't think it's possible to destroy that XR. On the side of a muddy, rutted, slimey hill, kick starting sucks. I wish they still made it, with electric start and street legal. I'd buy it. .
I'm hoping the kickstart isn't an issue. We don't have too much slimey mud around here- mostly rocks, and more rocks.
Well this'll hurt some of you. Seems Honda Italy sells an XR400... even has e-start. http://dallarahonda.com/xr400r_new.htm I've got an xt350, and if they brought these babies to Canada I'd buy one in a blink.
well, Duke....you and Ganshert saw it at Four Mile Freakout so no big surprises here. This was taken on the switchbacks heading down to Batopilas....making it earn it's living last March, being ridden from El Paso down and back. '96 with a freshened top end, 12.5:1 Wiseco, Kenda K760 Trakmaster II's w/ 4mm UHD tubes, Devol disc guards, IMS shift lever, oil filter cover guard, Clarke tank, gripper seat cover, Moose skidplate, stock gearing and 13, 14 & 15 fronts and 48 rear extra (it will climb a tree w/ 13/48 - 15/45 stock), Cycra, Renthal, etc etc etc.
Gosh, I just realized I don't even have a picture of my XR400. I guess thats part of what makes it so cool, not pretty enough to take a picture of, but quite fun to ride.
