Thanks Ruffus. I'm on there, even posted about the topic, never found a fix. Someone did mention a certain tool that can be used if I recall, but did not seem to be very clear. I'll look again!
I order oil filters 10 at a time from Motorcycle Superstore and get free shipping. My TE450 uses the same HiFlo oil filter as the Aprilia SXV/RXV 4.5 and 5.5: HF 563. I am using Castrol 10w50 full synth and it works great, flows fast at start up and is 50 weight for durability. 4,000 dual sport miles now and no problems with the bike to speak of, and I'm running a non-standard, 38mm fuel pump instead of a normal 30mm pump.
Can't wait to get it on tomorrow! I ordered a JD PowerSurge from Kelly at Motorsportz on Thursday last and received it today! Thanks Kelly! Will report how it goes . Got a few other goodies coming too.
Well went out again yesterday- the 1st trip was 3 days in the woods, single track, mountain logging roads, and high speed fire roads. I haven't messed much with the suspension other than dialing a couple clicks for body weight, forks have fresh oil and seals. The front suspension leaves a little to be desired IMHO compared to my 07 yz450- embedded rocks easily disrupt it at speed and I've had more than a couple "of shit" moments, and if not for the gpr stabilizer tank slappers would be an issue. Springs and re valve are on order, it just isn't beefy enough. Slightly down on raw power compared to the yammy as well, but overall I am pleased. Oil changes are a breeze, and I like that.
I run my front compression all the way out (off). It's better. The faster you ride, the better it gets
I do the same after messing with it for ages. Found it to ride pretty good for me. Yep, faster=better Ok, now to try the PowerSurge kit!

A little work time Stripped her down to install the new JD PowerSurge. While I was there, checked the valves- all good. Have not moved in 5K miles. Put a new metal fuel filter in the tank with some new submersible fuel line attaching it to the CA Cycleworks pump (which has been flawless). Mounted the PowerSurge controller on the bar so I could see what she is doing and adjust if needed. Little velco and it's not going anywhere. All buttoned up and waiting for the snow to melt so I can go tester her out 'Round the neighborhood seat of the pants dyno tells me the bike has woken from a slumber!!! Incredible throttle response now:eek1 More later...
I am lucky enough to be taking possession of a brand new 2007 Te510 next week. Our local dealers are clearing out the older stock at prices I could barely understand, ie dirt cheap. still receiving a warranty on the bike as well. She is paid for and getting registered and Pd'd I cannot wait....am told this bike is going to make my DRz e feel like a moped Here she is , ready to receive fluids etc
Armed that that info the wait is going to be appear even longer now:huh I am seriously excited...going to have to do the break in mileage in a hurry so I can get a taste of the hussy's wickedness !!
I currently live on the island of Lanai in Hawaii. I bought my new 450 TE from a dealer in honolulu who shipped it to me. After riding it for a couple of weeks the bike dies on me not too far from home. I open the seat and I find the battery upside down, my air filter eaten away by acid and a dead fuse. I call the dealer and 3 weeks later i finally get the replacement parts. I install the new parts and my fuse blows instantly. I am not happy. Call the dealer again and he as very little sugestion exept to try onother fuse. I do with the same result. Dealer says he will call the rep the week after. I wait... Did I mention its a harley dealership mostly... In the mid time I get a meter and go after the problem myself. After 6 weeks of this crap i find a burned wire caught and pinched behind the horn behind the head light. I go for a ride and the battery tips over again. I look up on line what the deal is: I have a battery that is too small for the seat to hold. I call the dealer, who by that time is fed up with me to get the correct battery. He says that is the size that came with the bike and I should put a wedge on it to hold it. They will not send me a new battery. I have the battery held with a towel for now until I buy a new one. Fuck husqy and fuck domenico's Sorry I am so negative, I am just not very happy with my experience.
Really? "Fuck Husky" because your dealership screwed your bike up? Sucks that you had such a bad experience, but blame the right people
My 2010 TE450 now has about 5000 miles on it, runs great, does not burn any oil, eats up southern New Mexico terrain here, mid-November, the bike ran 500 dual-sport miles over 3 days, from 4,000 feet to 10,000, crossed the Rio Grande, and never missed a beat. The ride report is here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=741591
This is your problem. Most Harley dealers couldn't even be bothered to sell and service Buells (a Harley brand) much less learn anything about them. Don't give those guys anymore money and find another parts source. http://www.halls-cycles.com/ has a good rep among Husky owners. Go over your bike with a fine toothed comb because that's probably not the only things they screwed up during prep. Maybe zip-ty that battery in? Good luck.
Totally sucks you had these issues. Go to cafehusky.com, 4 stroke section. Post your issues. Good leads on support there. You can work through this, and get on with your great bike.
The battery coming loose is a known problem on that bike. A pinched wire is not that bad of a fix. granted on a new bike it sux to have to fix stuff but thats how all the dual sports are currently. They all have things that need attention to be right. Send my your new TE450 and unload that piece of crap asap!!!! I will properly set it up and be happy with it for you. Read this and apply knowledge to your bike..... http://www.dirtbikemagazine.com/ME2...0&tier=3&nid=FE11D727959B4C2AA7906490B9DED4BD
Nice little ride up in the hills last month before the big snow's flew. Won't see these places until next July
