I just bought a used, but almost new, 2011 KTM 990 Dakar Edition. :clap:clap:clap

Since I own a 2011 Husaberg FE570S, I'm planning to keep the Husaberg for offroad riding and the KTM 990 for road use only.

I have a bit of $$$ left and was wondering what were the best modifications or accessories to get on my 990 for road use...

My new bike is 100% stock with 5000 miles on the clock. The only accessories I have are the KTM hard luggage and rack.

If you had 1000$ to spend on accessories, what would you do ???

    I was thinking:

    - Better wind protection (alien touring screen or other)
    - Seat improvement (Airhawk or new custom seat)
    - Highway pegs
    - Better fuel milleage (don't know what to do for that)
    - Better chain wear (automatic oil system)
    - Better gearing (16 front instead of 17)
    - A little more power (exhaust, air intake, etc.)

Do you see something I don't... I've been looking at this forum, CJ design, KTM950INFO, etc. There's so much things...!!! I don't know where to start.

    2 into 1 Remus ?
    Double FMF ?
    Double Wings ?
    Something else ?

    I too agree.

You may find the screen fits ya depending on your height and even the seat on the Dakar isn't bad but the tires are for sure not the greatest.

I have the Remus and KTM heated grips on my 2011 Dakar.

I'm running Conti Trail Attack and they are a great road tire that can do gravel or fire road type stuff.

For mostly road I'd say get racks and luggage of your choice.

Invest in suspension improvements ( Front revalve and stiffer fork springs )

Exhaust yes. I think you already have the crash bars, yes ? If so if JC Whitney has some cheap highway pegs that have a nice clamp that clamps on the bars and is held with two bolts. Had them on for 3 years and clamp has stayed tight. They are the round kind.

If you just put springs in the front it will make a dramatic difference. It is needed to stop the nosedive when on the brakes.

And of course the seat. I couldn't wait for a rennazco so I had XPC make one up in suede. Love it.

Windshield not really good options that don't change the whole look of the bike I cut mine down and am going with that.

No sense in going 2:1 unless you are looking to make room for aux fuel tank.

Wings cans sound great, especially with 2 of 'em.

Before spending $1000's on unnecessary goodies I would suggest...
    • Full tool kit
    • Shop manual
    • Water pump
    • Clutch SC
    • Fuel pump(s)
    • Fuel filters
    • Speed sensor cable
    • SPOT
    • Access to trailer or pick-up
You also might want to learn and practice how to remove body work and fuel tanks before heading out onto pavements unknown. It could mean the difference between loving or hating your "new" 990.

    I already have the following:

    - Full tool kit
    - Shop manual
    - SPOT
    - Access to trailer or pick-up

I had a 2006 KTM 950 ADV S. I know the bike well. This will be my road bike, so no exploring and offroad really. I'll keep in mind the following, but I tought that the 2011 and beyond years had the problems fixed...:

    - Water pump
    - Clutch SC
    - Fuel pump(s)
    - Fuel filters
    - Speed sensor cable

    Thanks !

Buy Continental Trail Attack 2 tires, a new seat from Seatconcepts.com, and save money for the rest of the stuff that will break on the bike.

Just road use? The SM could have done that better. I hope you meant fire road use, at least. No one will debate that your Husaberg is a better offroad application, but it's hard to believe you wouldn't see a nice little track going through a field and say "fuck it. I'm going!"

However, to answer your original question. Best advice I've seen is to hit black dog, grab crash bars, bash plate and kickstand relo.

    ...for now

    DON'T WORRY GUYS...!!!

The 990 will see some fire roads. But my former 06' 950 ADV S went way far in the mud, the singletracks and stuff like that. The new 990 will not be abused as much as the last one...

I promise I'll have to clean the bike from time to time...!!!

    Suspension.

Exhaust is for looks, mostly. Yes, a little weight loss (on a 500lb bike- big whoop) and maybe a little power improvement. Maybe. Maybe it sounds better. Maybe.

    But suspension is a must.

Then, handlebars + riser, depending on your height.

Oh- then sidestand relocation, yes even for fire roads. I have personally seen it happen, cracked case from a rock on a (slightly rocky) fire road.
