Hey I am looking at riding to moab and want to ride as much dirt as posible Ill be on my gs650 with knobies. Has any one done this, or parts of it? Any info you got will be a great help as I am starting from scratch (google earth) right now. Trying to keep the "hero" sections to just a few as I want to do the trip over a weekend. Thanks
Sounds like a fun ride to set up. One time I "started" down the dirt Panoramic "highway" south from near the top of Soldier Summit (Tucker?). That went for maybe 50 miles to Salina but we had to turn back due to thunderstorms...(not a good place to be) That was a while ago, so may not have the names right. Another time we got real lost at night trying to get from the Park City area to Green River. I think I remember Strawberry reservoir.
Count me in if you're taking folks! slc/ bcc/ gaurdsman/ midway/ walsburg/ strawberry ridge/ diamondFrkJnct/ Soldier Summit HWY6/ West to Tucker Rest Stop/ SkylineDr/ JoesValley/ Castle Dale/ San Rafael Swell -----> ??????? !!!!!!! (that'd be a big 1st day ) I've got the TOPO! series software and some ideas from the San Rafael Swell, a SPOT tracker, and 3D relief maps of the whole state on the wall in my study. that combined with a 3DConnexion Mouse & Google Earth makes for some fun recon. Where can one cross the Green River south of I-70?
You have two choices to cross the Green River either at Green River or all the way down to Hite and coming back up through Dark Canyon which is a great ride. I live in Lehi so my start point is up Hobble Creek and over Diamond Fork, Skyline Drive to Castle Dale and then the swell, Goblin Valley, Hanksville, Poisin Spring Canyon, Hite, Natural Bridges and up the back side.
I just found this tread and thought id freshin it up. So has anyone figured it out........id like to try it starting in Heber
I'm planning on riding this winter...So starting points may change. I'd be up for a dirt only trip to Moab and points beyond...Done the strawberry, sheep creek over to soldier..I think there is a connect to scofield and then down canyon into the northern end of the swell...Need to look into it more..
You probably did this already but when the snow melts if you want to do it again absolutely let me know about it and I will come along. I had an F650GS but just sold it and have an R 1150 GS now. All I need is some Knobbies but that is doable.
An excellent route would be to take Skyline Dr down to Salina, then jump on the Trans America Trail to Moab (reversing the route Sam has mapped out). Would make for a nice 2-day trip. I plan to do the reverse of that this September on my from CO to Canada
I want to do this ride this summer ,in july, august time frame I think it will take a week, camp along the way <small>View </small><small>lets see utah in a larger map</small>"><iframe marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=107750669609942872538.00047a7d4a6e0edf4e9a3&ll=39.160958,-110.475136&spn=4.155165,2.916748&output=embed" frameborder="0" height="350" scrolling="no" width="425"></iframe> <small>View lets see utah in a larger map</small>
