That would be awesome !!! Maybe we can even talk our common friend from Veracruz into joining us Thank you Don Richard for getting me involved in working something out . And yes, you are right about me and plans But I have a few ideas in my mind to start with , and I guess some of them might even get your approval
If we can somehow get him to break the seven seals on his wallet and buy some luggage we might be able to do that I'm meeting him this weekend so I'll bring my crowbar and try and make a start!
Yes, gran jefe. You came up with the meet idea (post 1214 in your "Guatemala to Alaska and back" RR , and I APPROVED that motion already. You didn't think I was following it, did you? Keep the ideas and proposals coming! I may even approve some of them. I know you are are the right man for the job, I am nothing but a n00bie foolishly folowing on your footsteps...boss. BTW, I haven't seen Hector aka CHAPIN on this thread, yet.
Hi it's 12/26/12 and I just got here I'm heading south but don't have a Planed route. I will stay for couple of days and would like to explor the Area. Also for a next stop toward el salvador Any suggestions ?
Hi Leigh and I will be riding through Guatemala on our Yamaha very soon on the central American leg of our round the world trip. Any tips of roads that should or should not be ridden and sights that should be seen would be of great help. Also If any ADV riders would like to meet up for a beer that would also be Dazzer and Leigh Ride write up so far http://www.bmwgs.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=10
There's tons to do and see around the lake. A night or two in San Pedro is cool. You can take a boat over to Iguana Perdida for a night. Panajachel is a fun town with decent nightlife. Antigua is an awesome town and is worth visiting. If you have time go up north to Semuc, but if that's not on the schedule just head down to Johnny's Place in Monterrico before crossing into El Salvador. It would be wise to go clockwise around the lake and skip the roads between San Pedro and Santiago - lots of crooks out there that sometimes attack motorcyclists.
Check out the small villages around the lake , market in Chichicastenago(Thursday and Sunday), take a look at the local church there, pretty interesting to see the mixture between Mayan tradition and Catholic curch. If you get there early, there is a small hill just outside of Chichicastenango where you can witness Mayan rites with chicken sacrifices etc. Just ask around for Pasqual Abaj Don't miss Antigua on your way south. I would love to buy you guys a beer if you come through Antigua or even take you for a ride on some of our not so well known but amazing backroads . I'm located in Antigua : I will be back in town from a hike up to El Mirador around January 6. You can ask for free police escort for the short dirt part (3KM) between San Pedro and Santiago ; I know there have been some issues there, but we locals still ride there all the time . It's a beautiful road. Just stop at the police station on your way out of San Pedro and tell the cops that you ar going to Santiago ; they will have a patrol car waiting for you at the "dangerous" part .
Yeh riding over to San Pedro they saw me on that Road and they made a u turn and insisted On escorting me. I'm leaving tomorrow and was a bit worried About it I will try to fiend that police station. Thanks for the invite to antigue but I'm heading Down to playa el tulco El Salvador but On my way back I would love to stop by.
