Does anyone have any pics of an oilhead that has been made into a cafe racer? I picked this up cheap a few weeks back with a vew to parting it out, then I thought I could strip all the bodywork and see if there's a decent looking cafe racer waiting to get out. However, I can't find any oldhead cafe racer pics to get an idea how it may look - surely someone must have done it somewhere sometime??
you will find lots of airheads that have been cafe'd but few oilheads. here is a link to a very well done 1100S http://caferacerspecial.blogspot.com/2011/03/bmw-r1100s-cafe-race-by-capitan-booster.html I have an RT and once you take off the plastic you will see it has a huge and ugly plastic fuel tank - they never intended for it to be exposed. I dont know if an S tank will fit, but the orig tank would have to go for sure. good luck with your transformation - i'd love to see how it comes out
BMW Motorcycle Magazine did a writeup on an Oilhead Cafe' Conversion. Summer 2011 edition. "OCC" based on R1100S and Ducati frame. One found with a google search. This isn't exactly Cafe' but is way cool: Concept: Raw:
Err... thanks - pulling all the bodywork off and spraying it matt black wasn''t exactly what I had in mind but at least I can see what it looks like with it's clothes off.
Yea, that's not an RT. Linny should first pull off the body work and see what he is in for. An RT is a LONG way from a cafe racer.
