The bike is for sale now http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=834559 Stickerbombing my plastics (DR650 SuperMoto) Hi all, I decided to stickerbomb my SuMo'ed DR650 plastics. First of all, huge thanks to everyone who sent in decals and stickers. I will be adding the names of all the people/companies that donated/sent me stickers at the end of this post. I shamelessly stole this idea from some post on SMJ but that was a DRZ. Lets see how cool the big DR looks in a stickerbomb version. If you folks have any suggestions or advise, throw it at me. **Mods: If you need to move this thread to another section, please do. Please donate any unwanted stickers here -My "WTB Stickers Thread" or PM me And I am still looking for a Rear fender. Let me know if anyone has an extra lying around. Here is the bike almost in its present state. Here are the plastics I got so far And the stickers/decals I collected so far. Now... to start cleaning the parts and planning the layout of the stickers. WIll add more pics over this weekend. Finally found some time to work on this. first, get a good beer. Found this at the world market. Cleaned up the plastic parts Using these to strip the tank paint All the stickers.
Well, after 2 hours of careful cutting, lining up cleaning up the edges, not to mention ironing out the creases in the stickers.... FINALLY... finished the side panels.
How do you get the stickers to conform to the compound curves (in the fuel tank for example) without wrinkles? Do you use a pounce roller? Judicious use of a heat gun?
Hair dryer and an expired credit card.. im classy like that Havent finished the tank yet, but will update with the potential pitfalls.
When I first started reading this thread I thought wow this will look cheesy but it looks fantastic, keep up the good work. Damn...I need to start collecting stickers now.
Thank you for donating the stickers. This is a great cause.... I had my own doubts but I am happy as of now. Cant wait to finish up and take the bike out for a spin..
The headlight alone took more than 2 hours.. :eek1 Still havent completely stripped the tank.. probably gonna have to wait till the weekend to finish up..
Dude -- I thought I'd stumbled upon a long lost Peter Max celebratory thread for half a mo . . . .. .. very cool looking! Good for you!
I love clear... on old bikes i clear the single lights and they look like new. I even use it on cars with sun burnt plastic, i use water sand paper first.
careful with that clear - a little too wet and them babies will lift like there's no tomorrow... looks surprisingly good.........
Wow, I wasn't expecting it to look that great either, but it does. I'm looking forward to the entire bike picture when its finished.
