Got the repaired side cover back on and the XRR sprocket fitted yesterday. I want to nail down the seat mounting, but need handlebars before I do, so I ordered up some Buell Ulysses bars. Renthal has some FatBars with 4.5" of height, might not be enough and I don't like tall risers. I used to own a Uly and liked the sweep and all of that, plus they have 6.5" of height, so we'll start with those.
Here's some pics of the splined hub and jack shaft assembly. Machining and handlebars will happen next week, then we can make some real progress again.
Getting closer... Got the handlebars today, glad I went with the Buell bars, they were the most outrageous highest rise longest sweep I could think of that would lessen the reach from where I want the seat.
Wasted last weekend going to look at bikes, but I got to see JimmytheHogs bike for some inspiration. I really, really want to do the 8" race light, but might have to settle for the lower priced torch.
Toss a $25 HID from DDM tuning in the X2 and it's bright as hell. That's what I'm running on the CBR and it puts out a great pattern with a good clip, very impressive
But you gotta take a seat to make a stand! oser This seat is too slim. :ddog But this one is Just Right! said little red riding hoodlum. Can ya handle it? Glad to get over there for a visual progress report.
Ok, let's get this thing finished up!! Somebody kick me in the ass. I have fiddled with it a little bit since we last chatted about it. I scrapped the Bandit frame, it was messing me up and now I can scrap the jackshaft idea too, who needs that out in the middle of nowhere, right? I considered a street bike for a minute, it's just not my thing. Started hacking and welding, it's what I do. CR500 front end will bolt on with a little more surgery. Freeze and pop the new race in. That's much better and now the lock to lock is awesome...major hangup on the Bandit frame. My buddy that I sold the CBR250R to gave me back my $350 custom seat and it's a perfect fit. Racks, tail light and blinkers on. Buell Ulysses bars. I'm planning to ride this thing on THIS years Sheetiron, so I have to be finished and tested by May 15th. I'll test with the street tires, then switch to knobs.
Random stuff... Old rotor. New rotor, had to get creative on a couple of the bolts...nothing made for this year of CR500. Caliper mount isn't going to be easy, I'm not a machinist. About the 4th version and as good as it's going to get. I sold that Corbin and bought some new tools, a grinder started on fire and the 20 year old sawzall exploded, drill had been making a grinding noise for at least 10 years. I got these KTM bags for free from an inmate, they look retarded on this thing, I found a guy that needed some and passed them on for free as was the deal when I got them. I'm trying to keep this bike in scale if you will, I think I'll cut about 4" out of this plate. I'll use these to get to the Sheetiron, looks too wide for trail riding with them on the bike to me. That brings us up to date, I'll get my ass in gear this week. Looks like I need to reset my picture default size, a little too big?
Thanks, Jim!! I sold the Dirtbag chopper and it paid for the tires/tubes I just ordered for the Bandit.
looking good. i see you ended up going with a triple. when you plan on finishing it up, i noticed the thread started 2009 haha.
As in engine? Four cylinder. I have a 2020 deadline, if it's not done by then I'll throw the whole thing in the trash.
What does a bike have to do to get some attention around here? I think the front tire went flat and it fell over, landed perfectly on the Edsel seat project one lift over with no damage. In fact, it fell so perfect that it's still laying like that. I'll be back on this thing full force on Saturday.
