So I have never really been a sticker sort of guy and have not thought about it much in reality. My wife however thinks it is a great idea to have a rolling billboard of places traveled and what not. So she bought me the US and Canadian map kit stickers for the panniers. So here is the question: Do I sticker the bike for all the places previously ridden or just ridden on this bike? I know it is a minor question but somehow it seems intellectually dishonest to fill in the states and provinces that were visited on another machine.
IMHO its for what you've done on that machine. That's why I always buy two and stick the other on my toolbox .
I think the key thing is you RODE there on your bike (even a previous one) so it's earned a place on your map. Not uncommon for a RTW rider to switch bikes midstream — i wouldn't expect them to reset their sticker maps.
Seems like there should be an APP for that. That is, once your GPS confirms that you've entered a STATE/COUNTY's boundary (you choose in SETTINGS) then that area becomes SHADED (your choice of COLORS/RANDOM...do you know it only takes 4 colors to never have touching states the same color...). It's a GPS-certified APP. That is, only your GPS can change the shading on an area. There's NO option to change the shading without GPS confirmation. Then...you'd have the ability to PRINT adhesive backed stickers showing WHERE you've been! Gotta go...got an APP that I need to start working on. BTW...PM me if there's already an APP.:huh
No rules. 25 years in the military and I have had enough rules. I am just looking for what people thing about it....
It's your bike, whatever. Just don't be on a shiny bike at Starbucks with RTW stickers on it sitting there waiting for someone to ask. Those guys have different tank badges. BTW, there are sticker etiquette threads in other areas, JM I think.
Taunt - what you place on your bike is up to you. Make it pretty but try to avoid anything that resembles the Starbucks logo else...... :eek1
Me too! There is also a second reason. If your panniers get to Rough, a fresh coat of paint can make them look better without destroying the memories.
Gotcha. Do what feels right to you. No where do I hear dishonesty in your question (ie, is it ok to attach stickers of places I was really close to but didnt go to... or never been). Stickers tell people where someone has been. Whether they care been-on-that-bike or not does seem academic. What's more important is you've been there and can tell a story about it. The experience of place changes you, not the bike's experience (btw, machines dont experience) of place.
Taunt, Where did your wife get the stickers at? I have been looking for a nice set for my new panniers. Oh and by the way just put on the ones from your current ride that way you will have to go back to all those great places you have been before!
Just be careful that you have adjusted for the positioning variance in the GPS, as the bike may move to a previous location while you install the stickers John
It's my butt in the saddle, no matter which bike I rode. Stickers show where I've been on a bike. (That said, I told my wife I had to go back to all the places I had been before so I could put stickers on the new bike. Told her it was an ADV rule. She believed me! )
Geez, will I be arrested if I have a GSA sticker on my GS?? :eek1 Whups, someone's at the door; excus
I grab stickers from everywhere I can when riding and use said stickers to cover all the damage on my heavily used Jessie Cases. It's much cheaper then new powder coat
This is the way I see it. Besides, no bike lasts forever, you will need to replace it eventually, and sometimes you can't realistically take your bike, think HI, so you rent one. In the end, it is all up to you. No one else really matters.
Great idea. The panniers will probably go from bike to bike over time so there would be some great memories in there every time I delve into the boxes.
