Today, I purchased a 03 Honda Elite 80, no manual. I have been unable to start it, It rolls over well, but will not start. Where is the choke located? Or is it automatic? Any help appreciated.

Some scoots require that you squeeze the rear brake lever while hitting the start button...have you tried that? (sorry if that's too elementary but I thought I'd mention it just in case...)

The choke (called a "bystarter" on those CH80s, for when you inevitably need to replace it) is automatic. You do have to squeeze the brake lever, otherwise it won't start.

This webpage has lots of really good information on maintenance on the CH80s, including how to test the bystarter.

You have checked that it has gas, and the air filter isn't blocked, right? (Obvious, I know, but sometimes the obvious things need to be double-checked.)

What does the gas in the gas tank look and smaell like?
The scooter may have sat(always put in the miles when posting a problem).
If it starts with starting fluid(a shot into the air box), but doesn't keep runing, the carb needs to be cleaned.

    Thanks for that tip.

It is a 03 Elite with 157, yes, 157 miles. About three years ago, I purchased it for my female friend while vacationing in Florida. She took the MSF class, but failed, due to dumping her bike in class, breaking her arm, etc. She never got back on the bike. This scooter was not involved in that fall.

I did ride the scooter a few miles, but not much. I just purchased the scooter back from her, since she is afraid of two wheels now.

I went out and worked (fiddled) with the scooter yesterday. However, while working on the scooter, a girl showed up to buy an old BMW that I had for sale, so lost interest and got busy doing other things. The gas could be bad, so will drain it if getting spark.

Today, I'll check for ignition spark. Where is the air cleaner located? My friend is trying to located the manual, but I'll probably have to order one. .

I really appreciate all of the help so far.

I sprayed starter fluid into the air intake and the scooter started instantly. I added some fuel injector cleaner, let it idle for a while, then took off. It runs fine, but then it should with only 158 miles.

I appreciate all of the tips here. What a great bunch of people.:norton
