Hi I'm going for a ride in early july. This will me my first proper long distance ride, and i have roughly planned my route more zoomed in pic of the planned route: Question is tho, if any of the you guys with a bit more miles behind you have any advice for this route? Anything you would add or skip from this general plan? I plan on spending a couple weeks, but have no problem shortening or lengthening the ride for that matter. And the "adventure" will be undertaken on a Triumph Street Triple Regards, A new an excited rider.
Stay off of back roads until you get to Switzerland. Then stay off Autobahns until you get to Munich. You can spend MONTHS putzing around the Alps and never ride the same road twice (each pass road is actually two roads - once for each direction - completely different flavors). General recommendations: Spend a couple of nights in Andermatt, Switzerland and just ride the local area. 2 - 3 nights should be good. Do the same in Arabba*, Italy in the Dolomites. You could stretch this out to 4 nights easily. The object here is to ride without baggage and not have to find a place to stay each night. MUCH more fun. * I say Arabba, as it's in the middle, but Corvara in Badia and Canazei are also good choices. A bigger map would be helpful
Thanks alot! Just the kind of advice I was looking for, will defiantly try to check these places out And as my time frame is very flexible, getting a good "home base" for a couple of days or four, and ride around sounds the right way to do it!
At the moment I´m writing a ridereport and it´s almost the same route you are going. I rode from Sweden and was also going the way via Strasborg, but have to turn home earlier(moped dig only 10 kph few days in mountains) The report is not ready yet, but maybe you get some ideas from there: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=608324&page=13
