I have a ride planned from FLorence,MS. to Alexandria, LA. This Satty morning(20th). We have a North America KZRider flag relay going across the states, and this is my leg of the relay. Going to be taking a leisurely ride on our old KZs down 28/84, through Natchez all the way to Alexandria. Meeting up with another KZ rider from Houston,TX. Just wondering if there is some good riding in the area and a good place to camp that would warrant us planning to make this a full weekend ride? Alexandria was just sort of thrown out there because it's close to the mid point for both if us. Anything interesting in the SW direction would be cool too. I don't like much interstate riding and avoid it if possible.
I do a lot of riding in that area and will be there this weekend. What kind of riding are you looking for and what kind of camp site do you prefer? If you have a gps, I can send you a route.
We'll be riding vintage 70s model KZs. Not an adventure bike in any sense of the word. Good KLR roads would beat me to death, as I'm just now getting my back healed up. With that said , we will be looking for good pavement and no gravel on this one. As far as camping goes, we're good with primitive. Yes I have a GPS. Here is one story on our relay ride as posted in ROK Accelerate magazine: http://accelerate.presspublisher.us/issue/issue-4-2012/article/kzrelay I got the pass off two weeks ago from three riders out of Huntsville, AL. area. Passing the flag into the third leg of the relay this weekend to Houston, TX. riders. If we were on DS bikes anything would go, but my bike is near show quality at the moment so I'm going to leave the gravel alone . This was our pick up ride posted on KZRider.com : http://www.kzrider.com/forum/13-bik...an-relay-ride-leg-2?limit=20&start=600#552836 PS. Anyone that wants to join in and ride in this relay is welcome. Riders can ride any bike they want, as long as the flag is carried on a KZ. <label for="rb_iconid_24"></label>
For primative camping, I'd go to Kincaid Lake in Kisatchie National Forest. If you want seclusion, there are a couple of remote primitive tent sites in the area. Actually, you can camp anywhere in the National Forest. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/kisatchie/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=34619&actid=29 2nd Choice would be Indian Creek. Indian Creek will be busy: http://townofwoodworth.com/recreation/indiancreek.html http://www.ldaf.state.la.us/portal/...IndianCreekRecreationA/tabid/237/Default.aspx Sent you a PM so I could get your email and forward a route. There are a few nice slots at Valentine Lake also (not far from Kincaid) if you find the other sites full. Only the North site is open but there are no showers like at Kincaid and Indian Creek. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/kisatchie/recreation/picnickinginfo/recarea/?recid=34643&actid=70
Glad to help. You can see what the Kincaid Campground looks like in this bloggers site. It's more secluded than Indian Creek. http://gypsy-boho.blogspot.com/2012/03/kisatchie-national-forest-kincaid-lake.html Indian Creek also has a primitive camping area isolated from all the motorhome slots. It wouldn't suprise me if Indian Creek CG is full this weekend.
