This event was also a tribute to Johnny Cash. Los Lobos were the headliners, but they didn't seem to know a single Johnny Cash song...

This week I find myself in Albuquerque, NM. 859 miles from home, 12 hours give or take including fuel/food/pee stops. Cruising down I 40 via Flagstaff, speedo reading 85 mph most of the way. Battled some nasty headwinds, but the weather wasn't too bad. High elevation route contributed to cooler temps. Came out to do IRAN ( Inspect & Repair As Neccessary) on a Kitfox airplane. The Kitfox is a experimental category airplane, (not an ultralight), two seater, similar to a Piper Cub in size, but much lighter, has a huge wing with full width ailerons that double as flaps, (aka flaperons) droop wingtips, amazing STOL ( short take off or land) capabilities, 65 hp Rotax watercooled 2 stroke engine (which weighs a mere 100 lbs complete with prop speed reduction gear box). Equipped with strong landing gear and large tires, it's the perfect ADV machine for exploring back country dirtstrips, sandbars in rivers, beaches or pretty much anywhere you can land safely. Stalls 'dirty' at 30 mph (this means flaps extended) so you could technically land on a strip 100 ft long if you're good.

I have been adopted by the local pit-boss, Famous Amos, but as you can see, he's asleep on the job :clap:clap:clap

I have been exploring the city of Albuquerque as well, there are some interesting historic sites and museums too, including the Unser family racing museum. Will report as can find the time.

:freaky as you can see, a highly capable aircraft - note how the ailerons run the full length of the wing? Never needs more than 50 % flaps to slow down, can literally hover in a 35 mph headwind if throttled back. Never needs full flaps unless you want speed brakes, it's akin to throwing out an anchor

Near Old Town Albuquerque: Took a bunch of pics of this colorful establishment at night. At first, did not use the flash. Then I took this pic with the flash and that's when I noticed all the stuff up on the roof :rofl:rofl:rofl
