dude, now I am craving for some real vietnamese food. Can't find some of those food here in the States. Can you FedEx overnight for me.
Hahaha.... You'd better get up and book a ticket to Vietnam. FedEx could be done but those food gonna be no more Vietnamese food. Hehehe.. This you can have anywhere easily - BBQ: This skin which people may use to make our boots or jacket... but you can eat them well... hahahah...
Seriously Viethorse, you should think about a food tour on a motorbikes, I think a 5 day tour to various cultural places with the local foods would be great. Throw in a cooking class at a nice resort with good beer, and I will pay you for the experience. Paul
Yum, yum ! ! ! Now I'm going to visit the "Little Saigon" district of Seattle to visit a deli and pick up some of this delicious cuisine . . . . . .
Thanks Paul. How can I take your $$ huh, if I am the "local"... Heheh Yeah, what stop you from doing so. Hope you were here, you can try all those thing 24/7 in sleepless Saigon.
This dish is very very simple but really special in Vietnam. Name is "Gà luộc lá chanh" (Boiled chicken with lemon leaves). It's simple - yeah, you can see the dish, just get the chicken meat to be boiled and put them on there. The special is the special chicken. People called "garden chicken" - the chicken growing freely, with all natural food (not the food from manufacture). The meat is solid, sweet and has very special smell. And with some lemon leaves, the smell becomes extremely special and unforgettable. With some pepper salt, a little bit lemon, some sliced onion... damn... I have to have it this weekend!!! And of course, with some cold, very cold beers!! LOL....
These are very latest food photos. My today breakfast... That's a traditional Vietnamese food called "bánh cuốn". A kind of spring roll, made from rice. Wonderful taste. Take a close up: Add some more things: Yummmy...........................
What perfect timing for a thread I love travelling, food (both eating and cooking), beer and riding. So I'm combining the lot and next Saturday I fly into Hanoi arriving about 7.00pm, perfect timing for dinner, staying at the Army hotel till Tuesday when we depart on Ural m/c's, (I'm riding a 650 sidecar) heading south to HCMC via parts of the HCM trail, then when that end's, I jump on a Vespa:eek1 with a guide for another 2 weeks of touring Vietnam Can't wait to get there, if any ADVr in Vietnam wants to say g/day, pm me. As you might have guessed, I'm an Aussie and hate a beer
Forgot to add. I'm from Melbourne and we have a very substanial Vietnamese population in our wonderful multi cultured city, and like all other mirgrants they have bought with them their own cuisine One of the major centers for Vietnamese food is Victoria St, Richmond, with wall to wall restaurants for hundreds of meters. In fact Melbourne is regarded as one of the best, if not the best eating centers in the world, the lastest wave of migrants are from Africa, and their restaurants are begining to pop up. Then we have our local wines, which are acknowledged as some of the best in the world, and our beers aren't too shaby either And no, I'm not employed by the Melbourne Tourist board
Here are a few photos of food from when I was there last July. Baby pig: Sea Snails (disgusting but I had to try them): Cobra--it was brought in live and they killed it while we watched, drained the blood and gall bladder then boiled it right there at the table. Anyone who says it tastes like chicken simply has not eaten it. It tasted like used bicycle tires: Toasting with the blood (mixed with vodka): I really enjoyed the pho and salad rolls. The tea was also wonderful. I may end up having to go back to Vietnam for work in a few months. Anyone there I can tap into as a resource for information?
Wow, great pics folks. Here is Com Tam (with grilled pork) a common street vendor offering in Vietnam. And of course Nuoc Mia (sugar cane juice).
i really wish i would have taken pictures of the food i had while i was out there. spent time in Can Tho, Phu Quoc and Vung Tao. my favorite dish by far was bahn xeo there was a restaurant in Can Tho that was just heads above all the other places that served it. its been a year since i was in Vietnam, and every day i wish i could go back, i guess i need to save more money! i know nearly 0 vietnamese, but i learnt just enough to order iced coffee with cream, Cafe Ho tan, and ask for the bill, all i really needed google maps of Vietnam is really out of date, but the restaurant i was thinking of is roughly here: 10.04403,105.79004 in the map it is trees, but now its a solid strip of stores and restaurants.
viethorse, thanks for sharing some pics with us. Makes me hungry! ...for Vietnam. I was also surprised at all the big bikes pictures. Cool stuff.
Well, almost let this thread idle for too long... Here I come back.................. Phở bò: (Beef noodle): Cá thu sốt cà chua (Codfish with tomato)
