Dual Sport Trailer assembly thread

Would any one be interested in a trailer you can pull behind your dual sport????

I might be. I've been trying to design a trailer hitch for my TransAlp so I can trailer my kayak with me. I already have a bike rack I built for the back so I can take my mountain bike on trips.

Have you seen all of the pictures of overloaded bikes with gear hanging all over them!?! I would think that those folks are in need of a trailer. Of course, with their more is better thinking, I am invisioning a bike pulling a trailer, and there is still stuff hung all over the bike, and the trailer to boot. The trailer would give them several more square feet of area to hang stuff from, and to take things that they can't possibly live without but will never use.

All tounge in cheek of course. I think that for a support or sweep rig it could be great.

Somehow, pulling a trailer with a motorcycle on loose gravel just doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I think the trailer wheels had a large diameter, and wide enough, might work fine. I wouldn't want to be going down any steep hills with loose traction though....might get interesting.

Actually, I think it would be cool to have a single bike trailer, something small, so you could pull a small dirtbike behind your pig. Then, I could ride to Death Valley in relative comfort, park the pig, and go play. It wouldn't have to hold the whole bike, just grab the front wheel and keep it upright. The rear could roll on the pavement. I guess you could even throw some bags on it like a pack mule.

Very interested in a little trailer rig to haul a KLX110 or other small bike behind my dualsport.

I am currently finalizing the design of my trailers. . I will give a few of the details.They are light weight(under 35lbs.) with very high ground clearence and feature thin wall 4130 crmo tubing and 6061 aluminum. They do have a single wheel and track amazing well. . They are awesome on dirt roads even really bad ones and we have also been taking them on single track!!! Weight capacity is yet to be determined, but we have been pulling as much as 120lbs to try and find any weakness in the design.

Saw this in Daytona in 04 and it's got some clearance.. I didn't see how it looked loaded but this weight is almost too high for my likings.



They even have a little vid of it on a DR .. I would have liked to seen them drive it up and down the steps though ..

Looks really top heavy. Why does it have a windshield? He doesn't put his kid in there, does he? :huh

Something along the lines of a Bobyak, but beefed up for higher speeds and impacts would work well for many folks. Not sure what you could patent, but one never knows... Some existing pannier hardware would probably be strong enough as a tow bar, given some use limits. Show us what you've got!

That trailer davorallyfan pictured looks like quite the gear hauler!! My trailers are mush smaller and look simaler to the BOB trailer. The only thing I was trying to patent was the hinge desingn, but I am nearly at a dead end there. Everything really was thought of by somebody else first anyway.

Is there any damping/spring or does it rely on the tyre only?

Here is a question. How does it back up? Many times (per day) while riding in the back country I need to back my pig of a Tiger up and turn it around on a tight two track because I ran into a dead end.
