Seeing as i am getting some of my hard earned cash back from Uncle sam, i am going to be purchasing some new touratech crash bars Even though those are some pricey pieces, ill have a little bit left over for other farkles. thus the search for the light guard. i know people swear by either plexi or mesh, but what i was wondering is there a overall favorite of one or the other? What say you?
I put an Altrider stainless steel mesh on my F8GSA. At night the light throws a weird pattern on the road going through that mesh. I think if I was doing it all over again, I'd opt for plexiglass.
I have the HB mesh guard. Prefer that to do off road. Gave me a weird light pattern at night but now that I have HID that pattern has disappeared. Would opt for plexi if I'd ride in the desert and sandy regions. Plexi dusts up and gives you a glare. That is why touratech offers an anti glare screen on top of it. If I had to do it all over I'd take the Touratech combo mesh/plexi where you can pull it apart in a couple of seconds and put the other type of protection on it.
Well we could discuss whether to get synthetic or all natural plexi, or if i go mesh, black or silver? and does it have to be stainless? i am curious about what HID you chose, and it hasnt melted your headlight yet?
chose a 35w HID 5000. Would have gone lower than 5000 but no kit was available where I ordered. HID run cooler than the normal bulbs and in fact the normal bulb burned my headlight that I repaired with aluminium tape. Worst has happened already (knock on wood) and after doing too much night riding in the balkan states without my flood and spot aux. lights I needed to go HID, especially since I busted another bulb and was fed up with changing them. After 3 bulb changes the kit is already made profitable.
